Mulky-Moodbidri MLA Umanath Kotian advocates christening of Mangaluru airport after Koti Chennaya

Bengaluru, Jan 30: BJP legislator representing Moodbidri constituency, Umanath Kotian, made a strong pitch to rename Mangaluru airport as Koti Chennayya airport.

Raising the topic during the zero hour at the assembly session on Friday January 29, Kotian noted that currently the airport in the city has been known as Adani International Airport. Mentioning that there has been widespread resentment for naming the airport after Adani in the coast, he urged the name to be changed into Koti Chennayya airport in honour of the valiant, legendary heroes of Tulunadu, Koti and Chennayya.

In reply, home minister Basavaraj Bomai, said that the central government has leased the airport at Mangaluru to Adani Group. He assured to bring the demand to the notice of the minister concerned and make an attempt to change the name.

There has been a demand since the last some years to identify the said airport at Koti Chennayya airport.

    Don’t really understand why people don’t understand the difference between name of the entity operating the airport and the airport name itself. “Adani Airports” is the the name of the company operating the airport, the airport name still remains as “Mangalore International Airport” .
    “Mangalore International Airport” which portrays Mangalore as a global destination and brand in itself.

    Mangaluru (Mangalore) in itself is very good name. It appeals to Mangalreans heart n Soul. Please never try to bring any communal or historical flavour or colour to the great name of our present International Airport. Kori Chennaya name can be used for any other monument or park, government building but the present name is Internationally recognized and let it long live for ever🙏😂

    First of all our Indian names are very difficult to pronounce for foreigners even for NRI kids. Mangalore is very good name and known internationally. When someone book the ticket they book for Mangalore to visit, other additional names makes confusing . Koti Chennayya, Kempe Gowda who can understand?

    Mangalore airport is the best name in terms of making a international destination #ILOVEMANGALORE.
    we have international airport, railways, sea ways ports etc etc to, and many tourist destination which not even utilized as required.
    We can be lenient with all the culture. people should travel and we need everything like anyother international cities.
    Now regarding the airport, change name no issue, need to highlight #Mangalore internationally.
    But the airport is turning to no ones choice because of many issues happening with people, improper management, dealing with people (i dont want to say particular community) and many other factor making this airport as a bad airport to travel (by mouth publicity) so the people choose nearby airports in Kerala which deals people in a different way (they expect).

    One change I have noticed after Adani took over the airport is that the newspapers that were available for the travellers are missing. Cost cutting started, I hope they will not replace the chairs with benches.

    Since Adani took over IXE airport, I experienced that the facilities are improved a lot, especially the washrooms and the floor looks clean. Still I am against this move that the govt is selling PSU's.

    What is wrong with the name 'Mangalore international Airport'?
    Why restrict the vastness and greatness of Mangalore only to Koti Chennaya? There are lots of other daivas we worship in Mangalore.
    There are eminent personalities from every religion and community of mangalore who contributed in their own ways to make Mangalore what it is now. Naming the airport by one name is definitely undermining the importance of others.

    Useless MLA, i have written so many request in social media to improve moodabidre town area by atleast displaying some road route display boards, there is No parking for four wheeler in town area, roads are too narrow between moodsbidre and mangalore, first you improve this and then ask to change airport name which is already in the hand of Adani.

    Forget renaming the existing facilities, think about building new ones.

    Congress as it is did not do anything since 70 years, please build new airport, hospitals, school/colleges, railway station/ports and name it at your will.

    Why do we need such a Central Government selling everything to private players. The Safforn party is only fooling people in the name of religion. When it comes to roads, circles and etc. renaming is done without any consideration.

    We in tulu nadu worship Koti and Chennya irrespective of cast. I suggest government should help to maintain the Garadi( place of worship in Tulu ) instead of naming the Airport.
