Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Feb 1: After the post of the deputy chairman of the legislative council went to the BJP as per an understanding between the BJP and the JD(S), the JD(S) is eager to claim its right on the post of the council president, However, the Congress it is said, is planning to set political movements to postpone the inevitable even though personally the chairman is ready to tender his resignation at any time.

During the previous session, the JD(S) had, through a letter addressed to the council secretary, informed that it had withdrawn the support extended to the Congress earlier. In the meantime, deputy chairman of the council, S L Dharme Gowda, expired. In a fresh understanding reached between the BJP and JD(S), the post of the deputy chairman of the council went to BJP and M K Pranesh got elected to that post. Now, Basavaraj Horatti of the JD(S) is poised to occupy the position of the council chairman.

Prathapachandra Shetty

Even though the current occupant, Prathapachandra Shetty, is reportedly ready to tender his resignation to the post, the Congress has other plans. The party wants to engage in some political techniques and delay the process. The other option is to remove him is through the no-confidence motion. The Congress plan is to keep its candidate intact till the no confidence notice is decided by the chairman.

The no confidence motion is listed for the agenda on February 2 as the notice completes 14 days that day. Within five days from then, the motion has to be put up for debate. The Congress, it is said, wants to snatch this opportunity and sully the JD(S) by blaming it of having entered into understanding with a communal party during the debate.
