Udupi, Feb 2: Canara Bank has deducted a total of Rs 378, Rs 142 at first and Rs 236 the second time towards service charges from the bank accounts of those who have accounts in Syndicate bank.

The union government had merged Syndicate bank with Canara bank a few months ago. The transfers of bank accounts from Syndicate bank to Canara bank were completed recently. The customers who had paid for different bank charges to Syndicate Bank by way of SMS charges, cheque book charges, debit card charges and were shocked to discover that further amount was deducted as service charge by Canara Bank.

In recent times, the price of pulses, electricity and fuel has skyrocketed. Now, the additional charges levied by banks on the accounts following the merger has caused quite a stir among the account holders.

Meanwhile, the customers have urged the bank officials to refund the charges unfairly deducted by the bank.

Speaking to Daijiworld, a higher official of Canara Bank, Manipal said that customers across the country had amount deducted from their accounts as service charge. The official maintained that this was caused due to the technical issue faced in the migration process. The official also told Daijiworld that the customers who had excess amount deducted as service charge will have the amount credited back into their account within a couple of days.

At the same time, the officials assured that all safety measures were being taken in the interest of the customers.

    This is comment is absolutely correct. But this is a small gain for the govt and Modi. They just handed over Lakshmi Vilas Bank to DBS bank, free. There is a big scam !!??!!

    Why Bank of Baroda and Union Bank are not in news?? My Vijaya Bank and Corporation Bank accounts are charged every month after the merger. I've closed my Bank of Baroda account, but Union Bank is not ready to close my account and forcing me to pay the charges. They changed the minimum balance rule after the merger and without notifying the customers, started looting them. If I look into it closely, I guess the Govt wants everyone's money in the Bank and we are allowed to withdraw only 3 times in a month. Additional withdrawals will attract more penalty. So, you're paying penalty for your own money!!

    I have never heard anywhere with any financial institute / Bank, due to technical error, amount credited to customer's account. Always "Debit" and if customer raise question, it is error, will be reverted back. How many customer keen watching the SMS, statement ete. By courtesy of Telecom service provider, majority of NRI customers lost(Deactivated by service provider for not using specified duration) their mobile numbers which are registered with bank. Alternative is customers shall at least once a week check the statement to find out so called "Debits"

    Mere account syndicate bank main hai aur mere account main 142 and 236 service charge debit kiya canara Bank ne ..merger ke bad dono bank ek hogay...lekin aur canara ka management as gayee...canara ka management bahut hi poor manegement ...staff ko kuch patta nahi rahta... service charges bahut zyada hait ecs mandate...cha returned charges 550 ya 600 . . Kya merger karte samay gov ye sab batai ko upar dyan nahi diya.

    You go to any branch of Canara bank in the Kankannady area there are three branches in the 200 meters from Valencia to Kankannady. Why should there be three branches isn't it a cost to the bank, looks like bank is trying to earn more to pay for the extra costs?
    I plead with all customers of banks to see to it that they avail all the services of the bank. Because the staff are so smart that they do not want to provide services like updating the passbook, they give excuses like printer not working, server problems, sometimes staff is absent all these excuses are lies, the staff really do not want to provide services to it's esteemed customers. Customers should be stubborn to avail the above work done on the first visit. They should know that customer is a king. They are just servants to provide service.

    TMA Pai started syndicate bank by collecting 25 pauses pigmy accounts from poor people of kemmannu, kallianpur. Syndicate bank was ordinary people's bank and was giving service. Now because of present policies and bad staff the bank is just breathing and in final stage. Their staff always absent, ATM,s are not working. Most of the managers are absent and bank is run by junior staffs.

    Don't tell me they were not aware of this wherin they should have informed the customer about the double charging & promised them a refund!

    Everywhere the same thing; they keep sucking the money feigning ignorance until someone complains! All this because they are dire straits financially!

    BTW, FM yesterday has given a hint that two more PSU banks are going to be privatised without naming them!

    This could be a computer glitch which triggered the charges twice. Canara Bank being with one of the better IT backgrounds, am sure will correct this ASAP and refund monies back to the customer.
