Mangaluru, Feb 3: The government had formulated 'Spardha Chetana' scheme to encourage differently-abled people to become self-reliant and become financially strong. But no applications are being received from most of the districts in the state under the scheme. The number of applications received from a few districts is negligible. Therefore the department is planning to give a new shape to the scheme.

From Dakshina Kannada district, there are no beneficiaries under the scheme so far. From Udupi district, there were only two, in the year 2017-18. In other districts too the story is the same, and district level officials say that applications are not received.

This scheme was thought off to encourage differently-abled people to provide equal encouragement as per the law and government policies. The department, which had a relook at the scheme, had found issues which have caused the failure of the scheme, and to include certain aspects that are needed to reach out to help the differently-abled.

The disabled persons' empowerment department says that disabled persons can handle 3,566 jobs in central government organizations. These jobs are suitable for people with disabilities that are over 40 per cent.

The above scheme aims at providing training to the differently-abled people by providing training to face examination, interview etc, to bag competitive jobs. All the differently-abled persons having educational qualification above PU can get facility under this scheme.
