Davanagere, Feb 10: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president, D K Shivakumar said that the party will hold protest against the Cow Slaughter Prevention Act of Karnataka. In addition, he stated, that complaint will also be made to the governor.

Speaking to media persons at Rajahanalli in Harihar taluk on Tuesday, February 9, Shivakumar termed the way in which the Cow Slaughter Prohibition Act was passed as the murder of democracy. "Even the JD(S) legislators were not allowed to speak. We are not against passing a law with the support of the majority of people. By misusing the position of the speaker, the government said that they have passed the Act through voice vote. "We will protest against the law and complain to the governor. Just because the BJP is ruling at the centre, the leaders here are behaving like autocrats. This cannot go on for long," he warned.

About Belagavi Lok Sabha bypoll, he said that the state committee has recommended three names to the high command to be fielded as party candidates. He said that the high command is reviewing the names, and the name suggested by party workers will be finalised. He also stated that discussions are also on about the bypolls for Basavakalyana and Maski assembly constituencies.

Speaking at Bengaluru, MLC, C M Ibrahim, said that legal fight will be carried on against the Cow Slaughter Prohibition Act as it has been adopted illegally. Speaking at a press conference, he said that never in the past Karnataka had such a government where a bill was passed as an Act even when people were demanding to put it up for voting. He said that the deputy speaker is running the house with the chief minister's remote control. He also said he is unhappy that the Congress fielded a minority candidate when the party was sure that he would be defeated. At the same time, when there is a chance to win, minorities are never considered, he rued.
