Bantwal, Feb 10: Dakshina Kannada police have arrested an accused in connection with sexual assault on a minor girl which took place under the limits of Vittal police station.

The arrested accused is Abubakar Siddique, while another accused named Chappi is absconding.

In this connection, the police have also booked the victim's brother under IPC 225 for helping the accused to escape arrest.

According to police, the accused Abubakar Siddique and his friend Chappi befriended the victim over the phone. On January 25 night, the accused sexually assaulted girl near her residence and captured her private photos on their mobile phones. The accused then threatened the victim of circulating the photos if she revealed the incident to anyone. Even, after the incident, the accused continued to sexually exploit the minor.

As per the complaint filed by the relatives of the girl on February 9, Vittal police booked the accused under IPC sections 376(2), 376DA, 506 and u/s-4(2), 5(G), 6, 14, of POCSO Act, 2012.

On the directions of the Vittal circle inspector, the sub-inspector and his team were on their way to arrest the other accused Chappi. However, the victim's brother informed Chappi about his detention and helped him evade arrest. Thus, the police have booked the victim's brother for obstructing lawful arrest.
