Mangaluru, Feb 10: A man ended his life by jumping off the railway bridge over Netravati river here on Wednesday February 10.

The deceased has been identified as Balakrishna B, a resident of Puttur.

Sources said that he was a KSRTC conductor by profession and was attached to its Bantwal unit.

A death note was found at the spot, in which Balakrishna purportedly said that he was taking the extreme step due to family troubles as well as harassment at the workplace.

In the death note, Balakrishna mentioned that he was unhappy with his brother, and that KSRTC was constantly harassing him. "The company is not letting me live in peace. The officials are harassing me continuously. Please look after my mother and children well," the note reads.

Sources said that KSRTC had failed to pay him salary on time, which had plunged him into financial troubles.

The body was found floating near the bridge within minutes of the incident.

Fire personnel who rushed to the spot brought the body ashore and shifted it to Wenlock hospital.

The other Netravati bridge over which vehicles pass was fenced a while ago to prevent suicides. The man thus chose the railway bridge to commit the act.

Several people who were passing over the bridge stopped their vehicles in order to witness the incident. People stood all along the length of the bridge, causing disruption of traffic for sometime.

Minutes after the man jumped off the bridge, his lifeless body came into sight. Help India Foundation's Raziq Ullal, who noticed this, immediately called the fire personnel. The firemen rushed to the spot and soon brought the body ashore.

It is suspected that the man might have suffered cardiac arrest while jumping, and hence the body was found floating instead of being washed away towards the sea, locals said.

A case has been registered and investigations are on.

Many people have undergone immense financial crisis and are in huge debt; under such circumstances, what is the solution? If you are in debt and loan sharks are hounding you then you either have to go underground or kill yourself! Many people are facing this situation after demo, GST, and finally Covid-19 the last nail on the coffin!

Instead of fencing etc. the root cause of suicides should be found and solutions found for them.

A non swimmer can hardly survive 2 minutes time and rescuers in first place should have around. Forget about police to arrive within a minutes time. All the previous cases in such incidents were saved Mogaveers or some local guys.

Philip mangalore here it is not the problem why body was swimming immediately but different problem .His lungs must have filled with water when he jumped into water and stomach too .so once body comes up before it goes down.Very sad incident.when at work place and private too troubles increase ,no payment,,one doesnt know what to do.He could have atleast seek someones help here.Instead of jumping into river, should leave KRST ,and seek job elsewhere for the peace of mind for the present.Poor fellow. One should be steady enough to bear problems or seek help by hotlines or religion heads. But not throw your so worthful life away into river.River takes everyone but doesnt give answers or save.May God give peace to his soul.Heartfelt sympathy to his family.sad .

Such a shame that people who were watching didn't call the police first all only want to be spectators. That railway bridge there needs some serious supervision there's many youth also going there these days for photography 1 slip and they'll be down
