Bengaluru, Feb 11: Former MLA and leader of JD(S) legislature party Madhu Bangarappa is all set to leave JD(S) and join the Congress, according to sources.

Once a close aide of former chief minister and JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy, Madhu Bangarappa on Thursday February 11 reportedly met KPCC president D K Shivakumar at the latter's residence to discuss his entry into the party. However, it is also said that Madhu visited Shivakumar's residence in connection to his daughter's upcoming wedding.

Son of former chief minister, the late Bangarappa, Madhu has been maintaining a low profile and lately keeping himself away from JD(S) matters. He is understood to have already held several rounds of talks with Shivakumar regarding his impending entry into Congress. It is said that once Congress leader Siddaramaiah agrees, Madhu will formerly join the party soon after.

It may be noted here that Madhu's brother Kumar Bangarappa joined the BJP in 2017 and was elected MLA from Soraba constituency in Shivamogga. Sources say that Madhu may get the Congress ticket to contest the next election against his brother from the same constituency.

News of the former MLA's imminent entry into Congress has been doing the rounds for the past several months. Way back in October 2020, MLC R Prasannakumar had said that D K Shivakumar had given the green signal for the move. However, Madhu is yet to formerly join the party.
