Udupi, Jun 27: Three youngsters of a family drowned in the Arabian Sea on Sunday June 27 while they were spending an evening on the beach at Alvekodi - Tenka Yermal, near Padubidri, here.

The deceased have been identified as Ravichandra (24) and Swaroop (15) sons of Shakunthala, resident of Alvekodi–Tenka Yermal and Kamal Rao (17), son of Raghavendra, brother of Shakunthala.  Local divers managed to retrieve the body of Kamal.

Kamal and Ravichandra were playing in the water when they were dragged away to sea by the current.  Swaroop plunged into the sea to rescue them when the strong ocean current pulled him in as well.

Swaroop had recently completed his SSLC and was supposed to join service at Manipal on Monday June 28.

Kamal lived in Chennai and had given the CET examination after passing his II PUC.  He had come to his hometown with his father a few days ago.

The search is on to retrieve the body of the other two. The local fishermen are hesitant to patrol the sea shore due to the rough sea.

Padubidri police arrived at the location and are co-ordinating the efforts in retrieving the two other bodies.

No doubt very sad incident. What I really feel is, the Govt. should introduce a system of proper quality, safety and health education at elementary and high school as a separate subject or extra curriculum. This will avoid such unfortunate incidences and save lot of lives.

Indeed very tragic and sad for the family. God grant them the courage to overcome this sudden vacuum.

Teenagers and adolescents should understand that every action has a consequence. Just a small adventure and fun mission has turned into a huge tragedy for the entire family. Venturing into the sea or even going to isolated beaches during torrential rains is a sure invitation to death.

I completely agree with Sujith Nayak. Experience of Swimming in beaches during rainy season is totally different than other seasons. In rainy season waves comes so fast, and its not easy to maintain our balance during swimming.

This is due to the reckless attitude of few of the younger generations. They find no time to read the newspapers and hence are not informed of the deaths occurring by drowning. The Arabian sea is a dangerous place to get into, that too in summer a definitely no. They do all these adventures without the knowledge of their parents, lest parents forbidding them. Just the other, day 3 youth drowned in Nethravathi, can't they take notice of that. I condole the family who lost their 3 young sons, pray that Almighty will grant them solace

Very sad incidence.May the departed souls rest in peace.Loosing 2 sons at a time is nothing but a disaster of feelings.Being aware of the rough sea during monsoon, people still are not cautious while entering into the sea.We have so many such incidences in the past to learn from.Avoiding sea is a best thing especially in the rainy reason or extra care care should be taken so that people dont move deep down.Even expert swimmers are helpless sometimes due to the strong pull of the water currents.
