Brahmavar, Feb 15: A man was murdered at Hosur near Guddeyangadi under Brahamavar police station here late night on Sunday February 14.

The deceased has been identified as Naveen Naik (43), a resident of Uddalka, Hosur village.

The police have already arrested a person identified as Gautham in connection with the murder.

Sources said that late on Sunday night, a group of five or six men including Gautham attacked Naveen with iron rods and beat him to death.

While Gautham has been caught, the others are absonding.

As per sources, Gautham had an affair with a woman, which Naveen had started to question. The police have learnt that Gautham was in touch with the woman over the phone for the past few days.

With regard to Naveen's murder, his son Nitin Naik (15) has filed a complaint in the police station here, alleging that Gautham, who was of late seen visiting a lady neighbour, would have committed this act.

On Sunday, Nitin had taken his mother and younger brother Mahesh in a bike and dropped them off at the residence of his friend, also named Mahesh, to attend the latter's birthday function. When Nitin returned home at 8.15 pm, his father Naveen was watching a television programme.

Nitin then took his brother Keertan with him on the bike. After dinner at Mahesh's house, he, his mother, brothers and friend Mahesh's father Manjunath, returned home at around 10 pm. They saw that Naveen was lying face up in the courtyard of the house and blood was oozing from the wounds he suffered in the head and face. When he was addressed, there was no response. Manjunath then called a neighbour, Narayana Naik, and properly checked and found that Naveen had breathed his last.

When the complainant was taking his brother Keertan by bike, he had seen that a car was parked on the road near his house. The car had followed Nitin's bike and when the bike turned into the inner road from the main road, the car stopped after moving a little ahead.

The lady lives with her son Sharat near the residence of the complainant. Gautham, hailing from near Malpe used to visit her house often. About 15 days back, when the woman and Gautham were standing together near Guddeangady Cross, Naveen had questioned him about the purpose of his visit to her house. This had led to arguments between the two.

The woman had later reportedly told the mother of the complainant that Gautham, the visitor, would not hesitate from even committing murder if Naveen did not stop questioning him.

Nitin alleged said in the complaint that when the family members were away from 8.30 to 10 pm on February 14, Gautham along with others came to his residence in a car, and hit his father in the head with some object with the specific purpose of murdering him.

Brahmavar police have registered a case under different sections of the Indian Penal code.
