Yeddy Visits Krishna’s House, Seeks Centre’s Help While Shobha Writes Letter

Yeddy visits Krishna’s house, seeks Centre’s help while Shobha writes letter

Bangalore, Jun 28: Even as there is no love lost between Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa and the state’s Congress leaders with both sides busy attacking each other, the former has surprised everybody including his own ruling BJP by throwing protocol and political differences aside by personally going to the residence of Union External Affairs Minister S M Krishna in Bangalore and appealing him to use his good offices to secure more Central help.

It may be recalled that while state Congress leaders have been severely criticising Yeddyurappa and have gone to the extent of demanding his resignation over the illegal mining issue and for creating a situation leading to Lok Ayukta Justice N Sathosh Hegde, the Chief Minister had lambasted the opposition Congress and JD(S) for not cooperating with the government and keeping off the Global Investors’ Meet or the government’s two-year celebration, Sadhana Samavesha.

Incidentally, the Chief Minister had taken the state Congress leaders to task for their opposition for the sake of opposition while senior Congress leaders and Union Law Minister M Veerappa Moily or Union Labour Minister Mallikarjuna Kharge had attended the Global Investors’ Meet. While the state Congress leaders had spurned his invitation to join the all party delegation led by him to meet the Central Ministers to demand more Central assistance, the Cabinet Ministers from the state had openly supported and even joined the state’s delegation, Yeddyurappa said.

The Chief Minister took time off to visit the residence of Krishna in Sadasihavanagar along with Chief Secretary S V Ranganath and his Economic Advisor K V Raju in the evening and held closed door discussions with the state’s former Chief Minister.

Yeddyurappa is understood to have asked Krishna to use his good offices to help the state in securing more Central assistance under different schemes.  More importantly, the Chief Minister urged the External Affairs Mnister to ensure that US President Barak Obama makes it a point to visit Bangalore during his forthcmong visit to India in November as it would send out a strong message to the investors from within the country and abroad as also the entire country.

Krishna is understood to have promised to try his best to help the state in the larger interests of the people.

In another development, former Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Shobha Karandlaje, who is considered quite close to the chief minister and was forced to quit when the all powerful Bellary mining lords raised a banner of revolt against Yeddyurappa last year, wrote a letter to Krishna to ensure that pilgrims visiting Kailash and Manasa Sarovar, the most sacred pilgrim sites for Hindus, were provided better medical facilities, shelter and accommodation, drinking water, food and toilet facilities by prevailing upon the Chinese and Nepal governments.

Shobha Karandlaje, MLA from Yeshwanthpur assembly constituency, released copies of the letter to the media she had written to Krishna. She pointed out that she had recently visited Kailash and Manasa Sarovar pilgrim centres and was appalled to find that pilgrims lacked proper toilets, drinking water, tents and shelter as well as medical care not only at Manasa Sarvoar but en route also. Even the helicopter landing facilities were very bad and the airstrips lacked asphalting. The pilgrims were put to great hardships, she said.

Pointing out that Karnataka government was offering a subsidy of Rs 25,000 each to the pilgrims visiting Kailash and Manasa Sarovar, Shobha Karandlaje urged Krishna to prevail upon the Centre to grant subsidy to the Hindu pilgrims on a par with Muslims, who are given to and fro air-ticket by Air India, local travel and accommodation. ``We welcome the subsidy given to the Muslims. But Hindus also be treated similarly,” she said.

She also demanded that the Centre should take steps to regulate travel agencies, who do not extend the facilities they promise and do not even make arrangements to provide oxygen cylinders and drinking water facilities. In addition, the Indian tourists are forced to shell out US $ 800.

It is, however, not known whether Yeddyurappa supported the demand of his close confidant and former cabinet colleague when he called on Krishna at his residence.

Dear Rajesh Nayak, your comment on this issue for a comment from Elias, shows your attitude that stoops towards divisional politics. A community of South Kanara has lived up to the expectations of the general public without bar of caste & creed. People like you have politicised this quality. Whatever money gained by your community through foreign aid till today has not reached the down trodden. Kindly do not show fingers at others when they help the needy and down trodden. This attitude of yours may lead to stoppage of this helping gesture of any community in future. instead of commenting adversely wake up, come to lime light and be a leader to bring about the changes...

Mr. Keshava, Puttur, in your comments, you have mentioned that boost in the Telecom Industry was given by BJP. It was the idea of Late Prime Minister Mr. Rajiv Gandhi through Mr. Sam Pritoda. If I am not mistaken, it was they who brought changes in the telecom sector by introducing C-DOT Electronic Exchanges in India and the present infrastructure development in Karnataka was initiated by Congress Govt. headed by Mr. S.M. Krishna and continued by the present BJP Government. I know how bad was the Telecom Sector in India in the 80's when Late Prime Minister Mr. Rajiv Gandhi had a vision of better telecom facilities in India and took the initiative to modernize it and the successive Governments at the Centre carried on on.

It is a good gesture from our CM to meet Mr. Krishna. Let us look at the positive side of this meeting. It is true politics no doubt, but Yeddy has been humble enough to meet Mr. Krishna.
Dear Nagesh Nayak, I think your comments are too personal. Any Govt may it be UPA / BJP or name it, people pay Income Tax & other relevant, applicable taxes & Govt missionories enjoy the benefit of it. Every state / every district / every individual who is liable to pay tax, has to pay, few pay more & few less. Let us be graceful to accept this fact. And "Vatican" is Christian Holy Place and do not please get down to that level to insult our Holy Place. Many in this country will vouch that the money received from Vatican or any Catholic Missionories is utilised for the development of society & under-previliged people, like for education etc. We havent begged from your Holy Places. Do you realise lakhs of rupees have been sanctioned for various Temples' development from State Government and we have not commented against it and neither have we asked Govt for any compensation towards our churches, even after attacks on our churches. So why get personal on issues which are not relevant I wonder. Let any politician go for a meeting with eating, work related overseas trip, but enjoyed like a paid holiday, things will not change Nagesh. So let us accept our politics as it is, unless you want to join and change systems over night? Good Luck.

But NN Y should congress give support to BJP/HINDUISM SELFISH PARTY beyond what is allocated to particular state. Of course the centre is not giving money from their pockets.

I am not against the development work what is going on now? No Doubt Yeddyurappa has done Good job. and one has to respect and support that. I also wish more and more sanctions to state.

Y there was no differences in any community since 60years during congress rule?

What happened now? In a short span of BJP rule what happened to communal harmony. Y people of other community feel insecure? Is this democracy?

If you look Tamil Nadu & Kerala, u will understand how they succeed in getting more n more amount to the state. Whichever may be the party in Central & State, they get money for the states development work.

The money given from Centre is not from any ones pocket. It is Taxpayers money (the people who sit outside and do not pay tax will only comment as it is Centre's money )

Swarna, one of your group activists, Nathuram Godse killed him, before Mahatma Gandhi could take a decision on committing suicide. Any way there is no reason for us to debate on this issue. Some people think replacing the asphalt on the road is a part of development by a particular party, please keep in mind this is a regular process for which we pay a very high road tax well before we drive our vehicle on the road. Keeping the road smooth, clean, efficient, and sufficient and pothole free is government’s job, which they do only when they get extra mileage out of it. These politicians print their pictures on ambulances as if the money is paid from their pocket. Most of the taxpayer’s money is being spent to hang the large hoardings of the politicians. Tax payers are being hugely cheated by these politicians, by using the money for their political gain.

Good statesman qualities shown by Yeddi and it really matters. He knows the enormous influence SMK has in the center and his position as Foreign Minster of a powerful nation like India. I call upon all political parties to shed off their differences and work untiedly for the welfare and betterment of karnataka. Because of dirty politics, the average kannadiga is suffering. Yeddy must wipe out corruption and should enusre a fair and just adminstration. The center must help our state as it is a part and parcel of Indian Union. Though because of party politics, center may not give favours, but it must return a major share of revenue which it earns from karnataka . Good luck Yeddy, Please keep trying.

BJP came to power for very short term and they had brought revolution to India in terms of infrastructure (golden quadrate road project, pradhan mantri gram sadak yojna) and big boost to telecom industry.
