Brahmavar, Feb 16: Navayuga company which is managing the Sastan tollgate, has complied with the instructions making FASTag mandatory from Tuesday February 16. The move was met with vehement opposition from people living in Sastan and nearby areas, as it ends their right to free passage which they had at the tollgate till now.

People have been gathering in large numbers near the Sastan tollgate with their vehicles since morning, demanding to exempt them from payment of toll charges.

The locals have been trying to impress upon the authorities that they will be made to unnecessarily pay heavily as they crisscross the tollgate many times a day. The protest at Sastan has intensified and is continuing. Protesters have squatted across the tollgate and raising slogans. Hundreds of people are protesting in this agitation led by the Heddari Jagruthi Samithi.

As the people had come together and protested, the company decided to wait and watch. As traffic jam occurred at the toll gate, the protesters were allowed to go without payment of the toll fee.

I have been observing the steep increase in almost all the daily consumable commodities including petrol and Diesel for the past several months.People from middle and poor class must feel the brunt of the increase in daily consumable commodities. This increase has become a heavy burden on middle and poor class people for their survival. Mandatory fast tag and removal of existing toll concession facilities for the local vehicle owners is another ruckus created by the national Highway authorities.Collection of toll from illegal toll gate like Suratkal, near NITK is another deliberate attempt to loot the public money.Collection of toll at Suratkal illegal toll gate without providing any basic facilities is utter ridiculous. Local people's protest, elected representatives silence and NHAI's autocratic attitude etc will not have a greater impact on middle and poor class people on their survival. Why this arbitrary collection of toll, when we have already paid the road tax at the time of vehicle purchase.don't you think, this is looting and fooling the public.Besides when the contract is awarded to the particular contractor at the time of tender each and every Terms and conditions has been mentioned therein in the contract, which includes the completion period of the project.Under the circumstance why again toll is being collected from the vehicle owners. In spite of all these terms and conditions stipulated in the what you call it as an agreement, work is going at very low phase. No one to question, this type of delay.Contractors are working at their own whims and fancy. They are the King. They can do anything and finish the work at their own discretion. Fast Tag should not be made mandatory,no double payment for non possession of fast tag and locals should be allowed to pass the toll gate without paying toll at toll gate like before and finally illegal toll gate at Suratkal, near NITK should be removed without any further delay.Don't test the patience of the public.

People living within 10 KM radius of toll gate should be exempted. I am paying Rs 100 for 1 KG Bangude, for safety purpose i am going in car and I can't pay 45+35=Rs 80 for toll. This is just an example.

No alternate road, basic idea of toll is to reduce traffic. To avoid traffic at peak hours. Here the Government is helping family of ministers to loot from travelers.
