Mangaluru, Feb 18: Just six months have gone by after the road between Kayargoli in Mudipu to Kamblapadavu was built. This road is built as a model using funds from a trust that is affiliated to a private organisation. However, Karnataka Water Board is set to demolish the yet to be inaugurated road for implementing drinking water project under Mangaluru legislative constituency from Harekala-Adyar bridge. This has enraged the local residents.

This stretch of road has a well-equipped drainage system, street lights, footpath for pedestrians to walk, plants on road dividers that cannot be seen in any rural part of the district. The Public Works Department has spent crore of rupees to develop this road. Even a private organization has donated crores of rupees for the project. In addition, five engineers of internationally reputed organizations were physically present when the road was being built and inspected the quality of road before completion of the project. However, Karnataka Water Board is about to break this beautifully constructed road in order to implement their project.

According to the DPR of the water board project, the pipeline was to be installed in the government land that is adjacent to the road. However, it is accused that the plan was changed overnight. Wide criticism is being heard about the assistant commissioner who is showing keen interest in demolishing the road even before its inauguration. The public is urging the administration to transfer him as soon as possible.

The quality of the road is outstanding. We can build high quality if we want to. Just that the contract is give to high school fail contractors who have political or goonda connections.

The Proposed Demolition is ridiculous. The Whole Process looks Unprofessional. First of all before Construction of such big stretch of Road needs clearances from all departments, agencies etc. Verify 1. Permission obtained from WaterBoard. 2. How is their NOC ( No objection Certificate)replied? Now even if Water Distribution Scheme to be implemented, There are other Engineering Methods of Construction . NDRC- (Non disruptive Directional Drilling.) Even Pipes of 3000mm diameter can be built under the Road without demolition. It looks totally Unprofessional and ignorance to even suggest demolition of for beautifully constructed New Road when there are so many Engineering Options available to construct Pipeline
