Mangaluru Feb 19: The 97th Founders' Day celebration of Karnataka Bank was held at the head office of the bank at Pumpwell on Thursday, February 18.

Dr Gururaj Karajagi, chairman of Academy for Creative Teaching, Bengaluru delivered the Founders' Day lecture on the topic 'Joy of Giving'.

Addressing the gathering, Dr Gururaj Karajagi said, "It has been 97 years since the inception of Karnataka Bank. We need to know what prompted the founders to start the bank with a common vision and do something for society. It is like a relay race, where the founders gave the baton to another chairman to carry forward the legacy of the bank, this is the only bank which carries the name of the state. Having the name of the state will associate with the state's culture and tradition. Karnataka Bank has never compromised with its values and integrity." He also stressed the importance of giving back to society.

"Giving does not necessarily concern money, it is much more than that. It could be a smile, kind words etc. When a customer comes to your bank, speak politely as you are representing the bank," he added.

Dr Gururaj also recalled his days with former President Late Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, "Dr Kalam was known as the people's president. He was known for his kindness and being understanding. Encourage children, it will motivate them, show interest in others work. Instead of sharing gossip with the youngsters, speak words that can motivate others. Values are not taught but it is demonstrated."

Managing director and CEO, Mahabaleshwar M S said, "Karnataka bank is a well-governed bank and since 97 years of its existence has seen earning profit. Karnataka Bank is among the few banks to have digital loan sanction facility. The bank is embracing the best in class digital infrastructure in all regions. Even during Covid-19, we extended our banking service, I appreciate the staff of the bank who worked relentlessly during the testing times.
