Mangaluru, Feb 19: Suratkal police along with CCB arrested nine people in connection with the assault on rowdy-sheeter Pinky Nawaz that took place on February 10 at Katipalla.
The arrested have been identified as Prashanth Bhandary (29) from Katipalla, Shakib (29) from Katipalla, Shailesh Poojary (19) from Krishnapura, Hanif (20) from Katipalla, Suvin Kanchan (23) from Hejamady, Lakshmisha (26) from Katipalla, Ahmed Sadiq (23) from Katipalla, Nissar Hussain (29) from Katipalla and Ranjan Shetty (24) from Katipalla.
The men had come in a Swift DZire car and after attacking Nawaz had fled the scene. Police have also seized the weapons used in the crime. As per reports, the accused Shakib and Prashanth had a personal animosity with Nawaz and sought the help of others to carry out the assault. The police maintain that there more arrests to take place of those who were indirectly involved in the assault.
Back in 2018, BJP worker Deepak Rao was brutally attacked by lethal weapons by four miscreants. Nawaz was the prime accused in the case. It is said that Prashanth Bhandary who is one of the accused in the attack on Pinky Nawaz was close friends with Deepak Rao.
