Udupi, Feb 19: The district Congress will be undertaking 'Janadhwani' Padayatra from February 22 to February 27 in order to create awareness among the people about the anti-people policies of the state and central governments.

The Padayatra will begin at Hejamady tollgate and move via Kaup-Katapady-Udupi-Kallianpur-Santhekatte-Brahmavar-Kundapur-Arehole and conclude at Byndoor. State level leaders of the party will take part in this 108 km long Padayatra.

The 'Janadhwani' Padayatra will be inaugurated in the presence of former chief minister Siddaramaiah. At the valedictory of the programme, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president D K Shivakumar, will be present. State Congress leaders and district leaders will take part in the Padayatra, said Ashok Kumar Kodavoor, Udupi district Congress Committee president.

Addressing a press meet at the district Congress Bhavana on Friday February 19, he said that APMC amendment act, Land Reforms amendment, Labour Act amendment, Electricity Act amendment and Essential Commodities amendment act brought by central and state government are anti-farmer and anti-people. He said that because of the cess imposed by the government, oil prices are skyrocketing and transportation cost is mounting. As a result, the things of the daily need have become dearer. Cement and steel prices are out of control. By amending essential commodities act in which some items have been removed, the officials have no right to raid the illegal godowns, he said, and blamed the government for not bringing oil prices within the GST ambit.

He pointed out that several nationalised institutions like LIC, railway, airports, banks and others are being privatised which reflects the failure of the government. The Congress, which guided the country through the development path is being blamed as anti-Hindu and anti-national. This shows the mindset of the BJP. As it is the duty of the party to alert the people about these things, 'Janadhwani' is being organized, he said.

Former minister Vinay Kumar Sorake, Dinesh Putran, Shankar Kunder, Manjunath Poojary, Dinakar Heroor and several others were present.
