Bangalore : Land Grab Twist to Art of Living Extortion Calls

Bangalore, June 30 (IANS) The reported extortion calls to Art of Living of spiritual teacher Sri Sri Ravi Shankar Wednesday turned into a land grab issue with a don-turned-journalist and film maker accusing the group of lodging a false case to silence him.

Sridhar, who publishes a Kannada tabloid 'Agni' (fire) and has a written a book about his days as don in Bangalore, lodged a complaint against the group at the Kumaraswamy Layout police station saying he was being falsely accused of making extortion calls.

"I met Ravi Shankar at his ashram (complex) June 18 to persuade Art of Living to settle a land issue. It was a cordial talk. There was no threat or any such thing," Sridhar told reporters, a day after the group said it was getting calls to pay up Rs.42 crore failing it would be defamed.

Sridhar said he learnt from someone in the Art of Living that while his name had not been mentioned in the complaint to the Ramanagara police, his telephone numbers had been given.

"After seeing the news about extortion calls Wednesday, I decided to take the matter to the police so that the truth will come out," Sridhar told IANS.

He said he met Ravi Shankar as his help was sought by Paul Fernandes, a realtor who claimed that about 15 acres of his land had been taken over by the Art of Living ashram, about 20 km away from Bangalore city centre.

Fernandes told reporters he had purchased the land, adjacent to the Art of Living complex on the basis of power of attorney about 12 years back from a farmer. The farmer died before executing the absolute sale dead.

Fernandes said he came to know after the farmer's death that the land had been pledged to a cooperative society in the area, from which Art of Living acquired the land.

Fernandes said he had spent over Rs. 10 million on the land and had approached Art of Living several times seeking either return of the land or fair compensation.

Since he did not get any relief, he approached Sridhar to mediate. Sridhar said he had not got any call from the Ramanagara police though his telephone numbers had been mentioned by Art of Living in its complaint.

Art of Living spokespersons did not respond to repeated calls for their reaction. Ravi Shankar founded the group about two decades ago. It is engaged in stress-management and social-religious services.

When Nithyananda lost a chunk of prime properties in US to the local US citizens and the borrowers, our swami Sri Sri had approached them to get those land transfered to his Ashram Trust. Boss! name of this religious game is Paisa hey Power!!

Once Shringeri swamiji had told that devotees should make materialistic offering to any God or temple except this simple inexpansive ritual needs. I have noticed that more corrupt the devotees are, more wealth they offer to God to wash their sins and the religious places don’t hasitate to accept such unethical wealth. Lokayukta should keep an eye on all religious places and their head-priest’s unaccountable wealth. If their wealth is converted into upliftment of the downtrodden, nobody on earth will go hungry.

I will suggest everybody that do not comment in panic by just seeing media. There are so many channels and news papers in India, to get the publication they do anything which is anti community or anti national. I think we have to wait till we get proper report. As far as Guruji is concerned everybody knows, he is simple & down to earth person , so many people benefited by his suggestions. And he suggest simple way of living.

People living in bangalore know that how difficult to have land in bangalore. Due to sudden rise in price all land out side bangalore are under dispute. all self claimed Goondas are tratening people. I have heard there are more than 20000 cases pending in court to decide who is owner. Many farmers now realising after 10-15 years that they have not sold the land by the owner of the land has forfully sign it. even through it was jenivien sale.

I am also affected party of it. My land is also in court and the seller is telling if you want to widthdraw the case you pay me 50% hike you got on the land.

I still tend to think that Tulu is the oldest language "baree pirakuda bhashe". Mangalore/Udupi was so small unified those days and there was no need to have any script and hence no evidence unfortunately.

Then as the time passed by, scholars gathered and RSS,VHP and BJP came into existence

I also saw some animal pictures and some Roman charaters engraved using chalks on some of the cave walls in Attur area. This makes me to think that chalks were discovered by ancestors using sea-shells, before which the fish bones were used to scribe palm-leaves.

Since ancestors ate fish and worshipped animals, i was under the belief that animistic religion was the first religion of Mangalore/Udupi.

Now I am confused. Please SOS

Rs.42 crore extortion. It is definitley not true. No one will extort money from a swamiji who is having state protection. This is complaint has been lodged to keep the other party in the land dispute away. It is not a right thing to do by the art of living and shows their true colors.

If the swamis will learn from great
swamis of history, a whole lot of
    problems might have avoided. When
the swamis try to have more baggage
    of this world, serious troubles
will follow them , which is applicable for
    swamis of all religions.

    Swami Vivekananda died before he
    reached 40, but he
    made international fame and respect
    in his short life.

    His mentor was Sri. Ramakrishna
    Paramahamsa, founder of "Ramakrisha Mission".

    Swami Vevakananda traveled all over
India with a water pot, staff and
    two important books " Bhagavad
Gita" and ' Imitation of Christ".
He lived a life of "Bhiksha" walked
barefoot, lived with great, poor and
    influential people. He was offered
to be the professor in Harvard University after his speeches at the " World parliament of Religion"
    but he refused.

    His great purpose and ideology
of life was " serving man is
serving God". He said " so long as even a single dog in my country
is without food, my whole religion
is to feed it and serve it, anything excluding that is unreligious". Where we can find
such great souls in this century?
This the irony, now those people who are religious in all the
    religions are greatly interested
    in creating their worldly empire
of real estates and bank balance,
    but wearing less expensive outfits
to create an impression as a
    holy god-man.

Land grab? Police and court will decide!! How again and again extortionists survive and dictate terms? Who is the supporter of extortionists? Eliminate all the extortionists (Ravi's, Raja's and so on) Let the law and rule enjoy the proceedings. I bet all rowdy pungi will be down and common man can enjoy the wealth even if he becomes rich by hard work or sheer intelligence and brain!!!

Mr Agni Shridhar,an media person, film maker and social a activist has respect in the society as he is a fighter for equality, communalism and corruption. Now a days we are hearing some DEVA MANAVA's name for wrong reasons. The shooting episode of ART OF LIVING still not cleared the cloudes of the MAKING OF THE INCIDENT.So another criminal alligation made by A.Shridhar and we hope this matter would be looked in to by competent outhority.

BUT after seeing Nexus between those so called DEVA MANAVA's with political bigwigs "AGNI" would be defused by FIRE DEPARTMENT of Karnataka Govt.Let us wait and see the drama.
