Mangalore: Tracks Cleared – Trains Resume Operations

Mangalore, Jul 1: After the operation to clear the mud and other debris that had got deposited on the railway tracks between Kankanady and Tokur stations were cleared, trains started moving on this stretch on Wednesday June 30. On Wednesday, eight trains including Ernakulam-Nizamuddin Mangala Express, Matsyagandha Express, special trains and goods trains, moved on this stretch without facing any problem.
The railway officials said that by Wednesday evening, the trains have begun moving on the Konkan Railway tracks on schedule. Before the trains were allowed to move, railway engines were shunted on the repaired stretch to test the safety aspect.
It may be recalled that train services were disrupted on the stretch between Suratkal and the city after two successive landslides threw railway operations on this segment out of gear. The passengers had to face lot of problems because of late running of trains, need to shift belongings to Suratkal and Udupi stations by buses arranged by the railway department, etc.
