Advani Hopes Karnataka will Respect Hegde

New Delhi, July 10 (IANS) Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader L.K. Advani Saturday said he was thankful to Justice Santosh Hegde for agreeing to his request to continue as Lokayukta of Karnataka and hoped the state government would take "full care of his concerns".

"I have conveyed my deep gratitude to Santosh Hegde for the immediate and warm response he made to my request to continue as Lokayukta of Karnataka, and not press his resignation. I am sure the state government will take full care of his concerns," Advani said in his blog.

Hegde quit June 23 saying he was frustrated by the Karnataka government's indifference to fighting corruption and checking illegal mining.

On July 3, he announced withdrawal of his resignation after an appeal by Advani, who assured him that his demands for more powers to curb corruption will be met.

Writing in his blog, Advani recalled Santosh Hegde's father K.S. Hegde, a former Lok Sabha speaker who he said could have been the Indian president.

Advani said: "The closer I came to Justice Hegde the greater became my respect for him... When the discussion veered to the issue of presidency, I said to (then prime minister) Morarji Bhai Desai that the best name I can think of in terms of erudition, non-partisanship as well as grace for the office of Rashtrapati is that of Justice K.S. Hegde."

Advani added that N. Sanjiva Reddy was in line and became the president in 1977. K.S. Hegde made speaker.

    Advanji, your intention of pleading
    with Justice Hegde to reconsider
his resignation had some mysterious ulterior motives, and it may
    backfire in different directions,
and this may cause you certain
    bitter embarrassment.

    Political leader of all parties
    while pulling the strings, they
do it in a way to play safe for
    themselves. But in certain
unexpected "string pulling strategy" the precautionary
cord may break apart and may crash land. This whole
episode is going to end up in
that direction because the people of Karnataka are getting
ready for a bitter battle to
flush out corruptions all the way
from top to the bottom. On the
    other hand, Justice Santosh Hegde
is going to reach new heights in
    his career.

Mr. Advani has done his part and it is now for the state BJP to act. Mr. Yedyurappa should come out of the clutches of Bellary Mines lobby and bravely act to give a free hand to Lokayukta.

Yedyurappa act now or it will be your waterloo in next election.

Mr. Advani, How can you be so shameless?
Do you respect Mr.Hegde and people of Karnataka?
On your word he took back his resignation.
Yesterday Mr.Yedurappa made him another toothless tiger.
You have lost respect of Mr.Hegde and people of Karnataka
Do you think people of Karnataka with respect you anymore?
If you have the guts – Kick out the chaddis – they have ruined Karnataka.

Assuring Mr. Hegde that his demands for more powers to curb corruption is most welcome. Excluding key people from the jurisdiction of Lokayukta is surprising and deserves explanation.

NOT ONLY THAT PRESENT KARNATAKA GOVT. AS WELL AS OPPOSITION MUST COOPERATE WITH MR. HEGDE TO DO HIS JOB. IF THERE IS ANY WRONG, THEN HE SHOULD BE GIVEN FREE HAND TO REPORT / TAKE ACTION FOR THOSE. WE NEED VERY CLEAN GOVERNENCE IN KARNATAKA TO SET-UP AN EXAMPLE TO OTHER STATES. CORRUPTION TO ERADICATED & ALL SHOULD WORK TOGETHER FOR THE BETTERMENT OF STATE AS WELL AS FOR OUR COUNTRY.
