Mangalore Jul 10: The newly set up Sharada Vidyalaya College here was inaugurated on Saturday July 10.

Home minister Dr V S Acharya after inaugurating the college said that colleges should not only impart education but also provide value education which is lacking in most of the colleges. The students should be taught nation building and thus achieve excellence. Karnataka is top in education and social sector so it has become necessary to increase the colleges, he observed.

About Rs 10,500 crore is released for education in the current budget. Apart from education dance, yoga and other activities shall be given importance, he added.

District in-charge minister Krishna J Palemar in his presidential address said that Sharada Vidyalaya is an institution which looks at talented students during the time of admission and not any recommendations.

Chief guest of the programme and vice-chancellor of Mangalore University T C Shivashankar Murthy said that the need for education is increasing and the Indian ratio presently stands as low as 12% for higher education where as the global ratio is 38%. Government has proposal to open 800 new universities and 35,000 new colleges in the country to achieve 28% ratio by the year 2020, but we are expecting at least 23% is achieved. The colleges should be service-oriented and produce good citizens for the country.

In his benedictory speech, Pejavar seer Vishveshwarateertha Swamiji said that the students have to learn to love people and see god in every human being. All the students should learn ethical values before learning to make money.

Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, trustee of Sharada Vidyalaya delivered the vote of thanks. Gulihatti D Shekhar, minister of youth services, MLC Capt Ganesh Karnik, Mangalore City Corporation deputy mayor Rajini Dugganna, Dakshina Kannada district superintendent of police Subrahmanyeshwar Rao and Mangalore south MLA N Yogish Bhat were the guests of honour.
