Lokayukta convinced with My Answers on Belikere Port Scam: Palemar

Mangalore, Jul 11 (DHNS): 'I have explained everything to Lokayukta and he is convinced with my answers and the steps taken by me with regard to the Belikere port scam,' said Environment, Ports and Inland Fishing Krishna Palemar, who is also the district-in-charge minister for Dakshina Kannada.

Speaking to mediapersons here on Saturday, he narrated the entire episode on why he decided to write to the Chief Minister.

“As soon as I learnt about the incident through newspaper reports, I visited the port on the same day (June 8) and made enquiries. When I learnt that the Belikere Port Officer (Mahesh Biliya) had released ore to many companies after collecting indemnity bonds, though a court order clearly stated that the 32,950 tonnes of ore shall be released to Greentech Company (only). Immediately the port officer was suspended,” he said.

“In this background, I called local DCF Gokul over phone to seek details (as the ore was seized by him) for which he refused to come. Later, when a meeting was convened, all the officers concerned came except DCF Gokul, which made me suspect him.”

“Hence, I wrote a letter to the Chief Minister and Chief Secretary. Did I do anything wrong? What would you do in such a case?” he questioned the scribes and clarified that neither he wrote anything ill against the officer nor he pointed out any mistake with the DCF. “All I wrote in the letter that there was dereliction of duty on the part of the DCF,” he said and added that he (Palemar) had no intention of hurting the Lokayukta.

“I met Lokayukta for about 90 minutes and explained to him what made me write letter to the Chief Minister and Chief Secretary and he (Lokayukta) is convinced,” he reiterated.

To a query on the quantity of illegal ore, Palemar said that as per the information available with him, it is 2.5 lakh tonnes, though reports claim that there was six lakh tonnes of ore.

To another query on the necessity of two probes (CoD and Lokayukta) over the issue, Palemar said it is left to Lokayukta. “He can withdraw the CoD probe. However, the Lokayukta probe will be final and binding,” he said.

Mr. Shenoy, any building contractor in Mangalore will be able to tell the truth. If all the contractor says the same, then there is something wrong.   The 3 acres land from Bondel towards Bajpe airport belongs to Palemar under the name of college. Like this there are hundreds of cases with Palemar. He is greed for money and power.

Akilaji, you want to know more about the dedicated and honest palemar.
    1. When churches were attacked in Sept 2008, press people asked Palemar about the involvement of Bajrangdal. But he refused their involvement. When his attention was drawn to the statement of Bajrangdal chief owning responsibility , Palemar replied: I have not read todays paper. The Minister has stalled his arrest for another 10 days. Very honest. 2. He misued his position as minister and visited University college and met ABVP students who were agitating against the statement given by the lecturer of the college against Rama Sene. Th same Minister while inaugurating a college recently advised the students not to bring in politics within the campus. Honesty?
    3. Manipal to Kasargod Volvo service was started recently. It was inaugurated by Sri Ashok, Transport Minister at Manipal. It was slated to be inauguared again in Mangalore by Palemar when the bus reaches Mangalore. But it was cancelled subsequently for the reasons known to the Minister. This is honesty or publicity.

    2. He owns huge land abutting proposed bus stand in Pumpwell. To get good price for his flats, in the Master plan a 40 feet road was proposed in the existing residential locality with 380 houses at Maroli. The present road width is 20 feet. If implemented many houses will be partially demolished. Is this honesty or business interest.

Akilaji, instead of asksing others to wear Palemar's shoes, you better remove it.

Few days back one Kannada Daily carried the progress report of all the ministers of Karnataka. Palemar was given 3 marks out of 10. The reasons are: Palemar was hardly seen attending his office in Vidhan Soudha. His office is always closed. He spends most of his time in Mangalore looking after his real estate business. He interferes in every affairs of the District Administration. Those who refused to obey his unlawful orders were transferred,

The illegal transport of iron ore to Belekeri port was first reported during March 2010. Every news paper carried the said item and subsequent disapperance of the iron ore during May 2010. It was in the public domain that the raids and seizure of iron ore was carried out at the orders of Lokayukta and Sri Gokul, DFO was acting on his orders.

It is unfortunate that a Minister enjoying all the benefits at the expense of the tax payers, learnt about the above incident only on 8th June 2010 through Newspapers. According to his press release he called two meetings one at Hotel and one at Port office in the presence of DC. The meeting at the hotel was attended by all the 12 GANIDHANI's who have stolen the iron ore. The meeting at Port office was attended by the Port Officer, against whom Gokul has filed a complaint for conniving with these thiefs. Hence Sri Gokul refused to attend both the meetings. Who is right Mr.Palemar.

Moreover Lokayukya has not issued any statement that he was satisfied with the Minister's explanation.

In one of statements made by Justice Hegde post resignation drama, he had said that one of reasons to to quit was he could not save an honest officer in connection to Belkeri iron ore scam. Now I came to know who was that officer. Mr Palemar, how long u will save yourself? please dont spoil that honest officer's name. I know honest officers have no grounds in Karnataka! Justice Hegde I know u cant do anything in this regard. Mr Palemar, I was proudly thinking You were an honest(?) minister. Wish U happy hunting...sorry mining

Poor Lokayuktha if convinced has no choice but to agree with the MLA since the State Government has excluded the MLAs and other people's representatives under the purview of Lokayuktha. A piece of advise to the State Government is to recommend the Reddys' for CM Post so that all scandals and illegal mining can be legalised and these MLAs need not live in fear of the Reddys.

@ P.A.Shanu. please talk sense. Do you know how dedicated & Sincere Mr. krishna palemar he is as a politician? He doesnt have any time for his family or his business. For you kind information there is a lot of demand fr his properties. He doesnt need to bother about it. His son Mr. Pradeep palemar is taking care of it. He is a full time politician. Its very easy to comment on some one else. Just lwear his shoes for a day . you will know how dedicated politician he is. You people stay far away at home, run away from India and jus bother only about ourself n our family. You have no right to comment about a politician. First ask yourself what you did for the nation. then comment in this page.

Mr.Krishna Palemars press meeting in connection with his meeting with Mr,santhosh Hegde was superb.

Our innocent minister came to know about the Belekeri scandal through news paper and he is not aware of the scandals in his department and didnt had enough conciousness to know the happenings in his department. He is busy in selling his unsold properties and flats. Poor fellow. We should not blame him . He hardly get time to go to Vidhan Sauda and even his time in saudha, he need to butterfy Katta Naidu and J..Reddy who are his godfathers.

The best thing he did was he recomended transfer of the brave and clean officer to get rid of the Belegeri scandal .

As per his statement he is telling he managed to convince Lokayuktha. Fine. but what about the people who made you MLA ?
