Mangalore, Jul 11: The Annual General Body meeting and the training programme for the new unit office-bearers of Young Christian Students (YCS) of Mangalore diocese was held at Shanthikiran, Bajjodi, Mangalore on July 11.

Fr Charles Menezes, the newly appointed director of India YCS/YSM inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp. Thereafter he celebrated the Eucharist and inspired the members through his  homily. He highlighted the mission of every Christian to be service minded and committed towards one’s duty. Through the parable of good Samaritan he gave a cal to the YCS member to commit towards the needs of society through methodology of movement SEE,JUDGE & ACT. He gave a call to transform the modern society by changing ones attitude.

Diocesan president Jeevan Lobo,Bondel welcomed the gathering. Diocesan joint-secretary Prakash D’souza,Kelarai, compered the programme. Diocesan YCS/YSM director Fr Ronald Prakash D’Souza proposed the vote of thanks.


































Soon after the Eucharist, Norbert Misquith, Francis D’Cunha Mulky, Rohan Pereira, Vamanjoor conducted the leadership training programme for the unit office-bearers on their roles and responsibilities at the unit-level. Young students were enthusiastic to clarify their roles and duties in their respective units. Francis D’cunha explained the national theme “STUDENTS FOR A GREEN AND HARMONIOUS WORLD” which was taken during 15th National Council at Mangalore.

In the afternoon, there was a election for a new central council members for the year 2010-2011. Ronald D’Silva,Cordel, the representative animator of YCS for Mangalore diocese Pastoral Council was the chief election commissioner for the election. The following members were elected as the new Central council.

The valedictory and handing over ceremony of the office-bearers was held at 3 pm. Msngr.Denis Moras Prabhu,Vicar General of Mangalore Diocese , presided over the function. Fr.Charles Menezes , new national director was the chief guest. Vicar General felicitated him during the programme. Fr.Charles thanked everybody and wished all the YCS leaders for their new responsibility.

The outgoing central council members handed over the charge to the newly-elected council by handing over lighted candle to symbolize the transfer of power. Jeevan Lobo, the out-going president expressed his gratitude towards YCS/YSM for the opportunity that he got in YCS programmes, which helped him to grow in his capacities and talents. He thanked everybody for the cooperation and support from his team members and also from the units. The director Fr Ronald D’Souza felicitated all the council members for their selfless service and leadership. Msngr.Denis Moras Prabhu honoured the leaders. The new president Tini Canute D’costa expressed his sentiments of gratitude for electing him president of the diocese. Msngr.Denis Moras Prabhu in his presidential address thanked the outgoing office-bearers and wished well for the newly-elected council. “You are fortunate to be the members of YCS. It gives you the stage to exhibit your capacity and talents. In Mangalore YCS/YSM is very ACTIVE AND DYNAMIC.

It gives strong foundation and formation to the youth. The enthusiasm that you have should continue in other associations while you grow stage by stage.” he said. 359  office bearers from 65 parishes attended the training programme.

Sharal Barboza,Shaktinagar, secretary, presented the annual report, Fr Ronald thanked everybody for the success of the programme and Jovita D’souza,Ashoknagar compeered the programme.

The programme concluded at 4 pm by YCS Anthem song.
