Governor Steps in as Karnataka 'Mining' Crisis Further  Deepens

NEW DELHI, Jul 13(PTI): With Karnataka Assembly continuing to be rocked over the alleged illegal mining issue, state Governor H R Bharadwaj on Tuesday said nobody can be given license to indulge in corruption and that he would not shirk from his responsibilities.

"You can't have corruption. Nobody can be given license to do corruption," he told reporters here after a breakfast meeting with President Pratibha Patil during which he is believed to have discussed the political situation in the state.

Without taking anybody's name, the Governor said the issues involved the integrity and probity of those in high offices.

"I have addressed the issue to the chief minister. I have told him you have appointed the ministers and you should take action. He says I need time. He doesn't say it is not happening," Bharadwaj said.

When reporters raised the issue of Reddy brothers and illegal mining, Bharadwaj said it was a big issue and he has already referred the issue (disqualification of the brothers) to the Election Commission for a decision.

He said an inquiry by CBI or some other agency should be held. "I respect Santosh Hegde (Karnataka Lokayukta). Lokpal is there but... no work. I have to see that rule of law should prevail."

The Governor said he sends regular reports to the Central government and has kept the Home Minister informed.

"I am a Governor. I know my responsibilities. I will not shirk from my responsibilities. Whatever the people feel I also feel," he said, adding in certain areas he cannot take action but only the chief minister can do.

Bhardwaj said that he has taken serious note of the political happenings in the state and has informed the chief minister about his concerns as well as the Central government.

He would be meeting home minister P Chidambaram tomorrow to apprise him of the latest situation in the state.

Replying to a question on the law and order situation in the state, he said there was no problem on that front as Karnataka is a peaceful state.

"But this is only a controversy regarding four-five ministers who are indulging in illegal mining and making huge profits", the Governor said.

This drama is played by the opposition with the tactical help of the Governor HE HRB, to dislodge the first BJP Govt in Karnataka. Right from the day Mr. Kondaiah complained to the Governor, things have started moving swiftly and reached the President. Corruption has become a way of life and without speed money, nothing moves in our country. The ministers in the central government involved in various scams involving thousands of crores of rupees(wheat, sugar, fertilizer import scam-Sharad Pawar 2G scam-Telecom Raja) are still continuing to hold their positions. Why this double standards? HE HRB took initiative to defreeze two bank accounts of Ottovio Quattrocchi, an accused in the Bofors scandal, without even consulting CBI, who had frozen the accounts earlier. When the present EC Mr.Chawla faced serious allegations against him by the previous EC and advised Chawla's dismissal, HE HRB did not take any action and the ten EC was criticized. What locus standi HE HRB is now having to talk about corruption?

    ..
its tough task for "kattekiruba" to kill "huli" ..
even if kattekiruba kills huli then also kuri is not safe..

Here Reddy's are caught red handed looting nation, yet we are so nice people - we don't want them to make them pay for their crime.

For Nagesh Nayak and some of the BJP supporters here their party is more important than the resources of the country. They go to any extent to defend the wrong doings of Reddy bothers and Chief minister. I feel BJP gives a basic training to divert subjects whenever they are in trouble and the same thing is done by BJP supporters here. Culprits have to be punished and it is the duty of every citizen to condemn it. Governor is doing the right job and if this is left as it is one day these Reddy bothers will sell whole of Karnataka.

THE GOVERNOR OF ANY STATE HAS NO AUTHORITY TO GET INVOLVED IN CORRUPTION CHARGES.IT HAS TO BE INVESTIGATED BY LEGAL INSTITUTIONS.ONE TIME OR THE OTHER THE MINISTERS OR THE MLAS IN EVERY STATE HAVE INDULGED IN CORRUPTION.THE CONGRESS PARTY HAS THE MAJOR SHARE IN IT.THERE ARE CORRUPT MINISTERS IN CENTRAL GOVERNMENT ALSO.THERE IS NO DOUBT THAT THE GOVERNOR OF KARNATAKA IS EXHIBITING HIS LOYALTY TO CONGRESS PARTY FOR WHICH HE BELONGS TO FROM THE BEGINING.THE MINING LICENCES WERE ISSUED DURING CONGRESS & JDS REGIMES AND ILLEGAL MINING WAS GOING ON DURING THEIR TENURES ALSO.ONLY JUDICIAL ENQUIRY CAN SOLVE THE ISSUE.THE CORRUPT SHOULD BE PUNISHED IRRESPECTIVE OF PARTY AFFLIATIONS.ALL THOSE INVOLVED IN ILLEGAL MINING NOT JUST REDDY BROTHERS SHOULD BE PUNISHED.THE PREVIOUS STATE GOVERNMENTS ARE EQUALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR ILLEGAL MINING.

As Mr. Vishu explained, I think only Karnataka Governor is doing his duty? others are sleeping..? It is true that Bharadwaj was a rubber stamp of Congress party in the hands of Sonia. they are not allowing him to sleep. Why not he is talking about the misuse of Parliament session time. Was opps. talk anything about the development of the state..? they have only Reddy issue..? to talk in Vidhana Soudha...? People of Karnatak look these leaders what they r doing..?

Do you have any proof of illegal mining? If you have, why dont you submit it to the Central Govt., for which they beg daily!!!!

Blaming is easy. Even I can say that Anil Kumar is doing illegal work at Bangalore. But, proving is difficult. You should have sufficient records.

If they were doing the illegal mining, the Central Govt would have jumped into Bellary and seized the company.....

Side effects of this is hatredness, competition ,rivalry etc.because no body want to loose .As a hindu i think we are not doing anything to our religion except spreading hatredness. When money comes the first we forget is our religion.Unfortunately we do not have a system where we can meet compulsarily on weekly basis as others do and understand our problems. You are right there are daily killings in Naxal effected areas. But, our Governor is not supposed to control the problems of every State of India. He has given the responsibility of Karnataka & he is trying to do his best to discharge his duties efficiently. Do you want him to close his eyes because other states are on fire and let Karnataka burn as well ? The problem with Kannadigas is that we give unwanted importance to religion & mining Mafia knows exactly where our weakness is. They looted Karnataka for millions of rupees and only a peanut of it gave as donation to temple in order to get public support. Our God do not need Crown worth Crores of rupees, but, need care for the needy and helpless. I am not against BJP, but, against the bad elements in BJP who damages/ruin the very image of BJP. Hope these elements be ousted from our great BJP and win public support in a decent way. Hope they will unite Indians & build a strong, united India with brotherly love among each Indian. The Governer is acting like a joker and giving press conference in New Delhi. Please maintain the dignity of the post. We all know illegal mining is going on in Karnataka and also in many Other States. But Karnataka governers actions unwarrated. Because of these actions and these kind of people common man lost interest in democrasy and elections. Who wrote the constitution? Simply anyone can throw away the elected government. By the time you appeal and get the verdict three more govenments will come and go. Remember what happenned to Bommai case.
The Yeddi government already asked Lokayukta to do the investigation on illegal mining. The same opposition parties were crying to reinstall Santhosh Hegde, but when all party meeting held to give additional powers to Lokayukta, all parties asked to exclude elected representatives out of Lokyayukta judidiction. So any impartial person can understand the real intentions of these opposition parties. ALL SHAMELESS DRAMA.

    Dear Sadananda, Roshan, Zita, Manoj
I  fully agreed with your comments.  Is this illegal mining started from last two years?  All corruption is the baby of Congress and now it’s grown like HEMMARA (Big Tree). In India we all the citizens have our contribution in corruption. In our life we are all trying to use our political influence or money power to get down the work as soon as possible such as from getting a seat in school to get mining license. These Reddy brothers are very good friends of the late YSR Reddy of AP. so until the YSR in power in AP they didn’t have any problem. Now YSR no more and his son don’t have power, So Congress trying to bring down the Karnataka BJP government in all possible way. That’s why they are doing all this drama.  Can you people give assurance that if Congress or Kumaraswmi rule Karnataka in future is this illegal mining and corruption will stop?

Dear Sadananda, Pejavara. I agree that you are not supporting Congress. I also agree that, the Mining is the issue prevailing in Karnataka. However, is the  situation in the state  so worse for the  Governor run to the Centre and report? What about Kerala, where the situation is at danger level, where the Terrorist groups have flooded money for distructive activities. Is that not worse?

In J&K, where people daily fight. Is that not worse. What about the Naxal effected areas where daily killings happen? Why only the states with opposition rule are targeted by the Governors?

Actually, the situation is not worse. But, these opposition parties  do not want the Government to be in place. So, they create the issues. If Reddy's are handling illegal mining, the Income Tax department would have Jumped into Bellary Directly from Delhi. Since there is no evidence of illegal mining, these politicians create the scenario.

Mr. Vishnu Shetty, all political parties are corrupt. Corruption is prevailing in every state & in every office. However, that corruption can not be compared to the volume of illegal mining going on in Karnataka. Also, one can not turn blind eyes on evil only because it happens in other places/states as well. I am not a supporter of Congress, but, we should not support any party blindly simply because of their false promises & lengthy speeches pretending to support a particular religion. In truth, Politicians do not have any religion, but, fool the common man, loot & amass wealth, make hollow promises. Wake up my friend & try to distinguish right & wrong.
