Now a Dharna from BJP to Sack Governor Bhardwaj

Bangalore, Jul 14 (PTI) : The ruling BJP in Karnataka on Wednesday decided to stage a dharna along with its ministers and legislators in Delhi, demanding the sacking of the state's Governor H R Bhardwaj for his outbursts against its government and some ministers.

BJP Core Committee which met here under the leadership of Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, resolved to hold the dharna in front of the Rashtrapati Bhavan to register the government's ire over the conduct of the governor, who on Tuesday sought action against two ministers, the Reddy brothers of Bellary, in the light of allegations of illegal mining against them.

Highly placed sources said those who attended the meeting expressed their anguish over the governor 'targeting' the BJP government and flayed his actions. The sources said a date would be fixed for the dharna after the completion of the state's current legislature session which has been disrupted in the wake of dharna resorted to by Opposition Congress and JDS demanding CBI investigation into the illegal mining scam.

Both the houses of the Legislatures have been witnessing turmoil since July 9 over the issue. Bhardwaj, who called on President Pratibha Patil on Tuesday in Delhi, told reporters that he has asked Yeddyurappa to take action against Tourism Minister G Janardhana Reddy and his brother Revenue Minister G Karunakara Reddy in the wake of allegations of their involvement in illegal mining.

The governor, who has already referred a complaint seeking the disqualification of the Reddy brothers and Health Minister B Sreeramulu from their legislature membership to the Election Commission, had said "I have taken serious note of the issue. I have informed the Chief Minister of my concern and to the central government...whether they can continue as ministers and indulge in corrupt practices and make profit".

In his initial reaction, Karunakara Reddy on Tuesday said they would initiate legal action against the Governor for his remarks on corruption against them. The Core Committee meeting was attended by state BJP President K S Eswrappa, Ministers -- R Ashok, Basavaraj Bommai, Katta Subramanya Naidu and Jagadish Shettar, besides Yeddyurappa, sources said.

Yeddyurappa declined to comment on Bhardwaj's remarks on the Bellary ministers. "I will personally meet him (Bhardwaj) to know what's on his mind," he told reporters here.

Dear Mr. Keshava, Puttur- It is not important if congress is any better than BJP. All culprits irrespective of the party affiliations should be punished. Lokayukta has limited powers and these Reddys can go to any extent in using government machinery to cover up their deeds. Take the example of beaurocrats in Bellary appointed by Reddys and helping their illegal mining. Only CBI can unearth the truth because the matter is inter state and related to exports.

I pity your level of understanding of current ongoing mudslinging between governer and BJP MLAs. You have compared Governer to KASAB and Afzal guru, both enemies of the country. You should first know whats democracy and how it functions, how dissenion are heard and problems are resolved. Grow up do you think governer is KASAB ?

Mr. Satish Kunder, I agree 100% what you said about next election. But, is congress any better than BJP? Reddy's didn't start mining after BJP came to power right? Why it was not handed over to CBI previous govt? Why the oppsition is against handing over the investigation to Lokayuktha?

Mr. Shetty and Mr. M Bhat /Mumbai...I don't understand why do you call Mr. Bhardwaj as a congress agent. Even common people of Karnataka knows how the govt. is looting public wealth. His Excellency Bhardwaj is doing right thing. If he is congress agent, what do you call that Ram Jois. when BJP appointed him as a governor of Bihar he was most of the time acting like agent of RSS. Do you know what all nonsense Mr. Jois did in Bihar. That time your BJP people were depending him... Mr. Bhat shame to the people like you...Shame to your dual standards and ugly mind..

One has to nip the corruption in the bud, so that it does not blossom into a wild flower and later in to deep rooted tree. The Governer's role as the constitutional head is restricted to overseeing the proper goverence but not to interfere in the day to day affairs of the Government. If his party applies the same yard stick in congi ruled state one can appreicate such actions. James bond style actions will only recive condemnation from people like us.

It is sad that some of the BJP supporters like Vishu Shetty, Nandikoor /Kuwait want to highlight other scams to cover up the biggest mining scam in the country.

I advise them that people are not fools and know what is right and what is wrong. If BJP people think that they can escape this scandal without taking any action then they are mistaken. People will throw them out in the next election.

It is Kannadigas' luck that we have a sincere & trustworthy Governor who stands boldly aganist a corrupt & unfit to rule govt. One can boldly say that our CM is scared to corrupt Reddy brothers and trying to save his chair even at the cost of our State & his own prestige. His failure & surrender to Reddys' is a shame & disgrace to all Kannadigas. He has no moral right to be our leader (CM). Jai Jai Mr. Bharadwaj - an iron man !!

You are right, definitely BJP has many good plans for the poor in their agenda. But the priority is for the more poor people like Reddy and others. I wish they get some time to look at real poor people.

Opposition always will be there to oppose. I and you elected BJP leaders becuase we thought they are better than you and me. We thought they can represent us. They can handle the pressure of opposition. They can get time to devote for their region etc etc.

May be we were wrong in ing our candidate.

All are self cantered and they have their own interest and none of them have any interest to curb corruption. Any of the supporters of Congress or BJP or JD(s) can justify, why the opposition did not oppose in the assembly, when CM gave limited prosecution power to Justice Hegde, exempting the Ministers, MPs, MLAs of present and past? They fight election only to become rich and certainly not in the interest of the state or its people. We stupid people fight with each other and giving an opportunity for them to become rich. Does this then mean that when congress was ruling center and state both that time there was no corruption in state Govt so Governer sat sailent, now only when state is ruled by BJP and center is ruled by congress suddenly they realised there is corruption.
I wont deny that there is corruption of course there is in both state and center, but why this bias. Baradwaj is behaving like pakka Congress agent who creats problems in all BJP ruled states. Mining money is shared by all noteble people of all parties but diffrence is people like DK Shiv, HD Kumarswami, Revanna o Devegowda act smart by operating mining in proxy names where as Reddy Bro's and shriramulu openly flaunt their wealth and capacity.

Mr.Bhardwaj has not done any major contribution though he was law minister & a former justice too. He knows he has limited powers. His acts will not effect BJP government.
