Mangalore, Jul 17: The rag-pickers on Friday July 16 continued collecting bits of the wreckage left after the salvaging firm cleared the heavy metal and precious items from the crash site of Air India Express at Kenjar, which they have been doing since the past few days.

They competed amongst themselves to retrieve a few bits of the plane’s wreckage. A group of 10–15 persons arrived at the crash site soon after police security was withdrawn and the salvage operation was completed. 












People from the neighbouring villages also arrived at the location with tools to retrieve semi-precious items and a few of them even brought along vehicles to cart away these items. 
 
The incessant rains that have lashed the coastal belt since the past few weeks did not deter the rag-pickers from continuing their hunt for fortune at the crash site as it was a once in a lifetime opportunity for them.

    These pics only goes to show that there is a big gap between rich and poor in India, and the gap seems to be widening. Poverty does not have rules. When desperate for food, people will choose any method to get some money so that they can feed themselves and family.

    Now the valuables are forgotte story. Let these poor people get the returns for their hard work. Thdey are not like Sattar who stole on the pretext of helping the victims. Its like Titanic for these rag pickers.

    What else would be done with the site after all needed have been cleared by the concerned authorities, whether it is private pretty or not. At least let the plot be cleared of the debris, unwanted by the concerned.

    Well anybody will be tempted when the place is not properly guarded. If you see the pictures these are rag pickers/ poor people. some times they pick up valuables from anyones compound if the owners are not around. Well there is no proof how much investigaters and other so called protectors have pocketted. This is life.good and evil exists on this planet.

    Specially those who lash out against people collecting the
    wreckage.

    Its SAD, but accept this is our society.

    Even if its left there to be investigated, please note in India
    these reports and never un-earthed. Its more wise to not to
    think and write about this topic and hurt yourself.

    Rather, (all those sensible people) please train and educate
    your son/daughter to occupy the bureaucratic posts in India
    and Make India like USA (I have never been there but people
    Commenting from these countries show a better picture of that Country).

    This is more amicable solution and while you people compare US with
    India, kindly note US got independence in in 1770’s while we are still
    Young, corruption and other evils are there in our society but these monstersare cared and nurtured by us.

    So, don’t blame your country for your wrongdoing, rather love and build a nation and proud being Indian.

    Dr. AYESHA NISHMA i have not seen any person picking up here in usa. The whole area is protected and restricted by the police. Every bit is collected and taken for evidence. And then the whole area is cleaned up. I do not know in which city do you live in usa.

    Dear folks, there is nothing wrong on this as they looking for something for their livehood, I feel really pity on them when u see the pics with women, children even small babies with mom. Even in here USA also its a common practice to look for something after the crash even a car crash. But as a mangalorean, feel so sad to see these pics. This is the results of neglect of our so called social protectors who is only interested in disturbance of soceity other than extending their hand to help these poor peoples.....God bless all of us.

    whos place this anyway? is this private or govt? if its private land the owner of land should not allow people to do like this practise. what they will do if they not found any thing keep digging? all of them after their hunting clean the place then its praisable.
