Yeddyurappa Meets Chidambaram Over illegal Mining Row

New Delhi, July 17 (IANS) Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa met union Home Minister P. Chidambaram here Saturday amid an undying crisis over illegal mining in the state and the opposition's demand for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into it.

Yeddyurappa said he briefed the home minister on the issue that has triggered a political crisis in Karnataka following a four-day stand off in the state legislature between the government and the opposition.

"I briefed the home minister about the issue. A lokayukta (ombudsman) has been appointed and he will probe the illegal mining scam," he said, signalling that a CBI probe into the massive illegal iron ore mining in the state was not acceptable to the government.

The opposition Congress and Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S) are alleging that the Reddy brothers - Tourism Minister G. Janardhana, his elder brother and Revenue Minister G. Karunakara, and younger brother and legislator G. Somashekara - are involved in large-scale illegal mining in Bellary as well as neighbouring Andhra Pradesh.

Yeddyurappa said, "If any of my cabinet ministers is proved guilty, I’ll remove them within 24 hours."

The chief minister had earlier also rejected the opposition's demand for a CBI investigation into the scam.

On Friday, Yeddyurappa met Governor H.R. Bhardwaj and conveyed the government's stand against a CBI inquiry into the scam.

Bhardwaj, a former law minister, earlier this week briefed President Pratibha Patil in New Delhi about the illegal mining issue and the steps he has taken to handle it.

He later formally wrote to the chief minister to take action against those indulging in illegal mining and referred a Congress legislator's petition seeking disqualification of the Reddy brothers to the Election Commission.

Sticking to his government's stand of not referring the illegal mining issue to the CBI, Yeddyurappa said he had told the governor that "it is not proper now to entrust the matter to CBI probe. If we do it now, it would further delay the investigation process".

He is is likely to meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders later in the day.

Mr. Nagesh Nayak is feeling the ground is dwindling where he is staying and not solid. Hence he seeks shelter of almighty God. That is good. If a person is drowning he will certainly cry to save. Common Mr. Nagesh Nayak accept and embrace the faith of Jesus Christ however you have to change once you accept Jesus i.e, you have to love every human. No harm, No vengeance, no arrogance, no selfishness no terrorism and you will live peacefully. You can become another Paul.

Let yeddy alove CBI probe against the Maining Mafia . Every thing will become alright. But he is afraid of Reddy Brothers who are having strong money and muscle power. Just to your rememberance shobha Karandlaje women minister in yeddys cabinet was allegedly thrown out by Reddys because reddys knew that she can become a blockade in their illegal business.

Probe by Lokayukta will definitely expose real culprits whether they are belonging to BJP, Congress or JD(s). JD(S)ex-CM Kumaraswamy after he lost power sanctioned license in panic to carry out Mining in 2300 hectares of land which is itself a very very suspicious act by Kumaraswamy. All these politicians want to use CBI to cover their involvement in illigal mining. In my opinion public should support Yeddy for entrusting the job to Lokayukta who is clean, straightforward and honest justice.

last week visit of congress agent to meet president, PM,HM - seem to me a political stunt, a clear conspiracy to blame-game in the making.

congress agents visits a proof of inability to handle the situation on the one hand and on the other a conspiracy to hatch a blame-game against the ruling party - that it has not taken action in spite of  having "approached" them.

Do not forget that 'power' [muscle power, tongue power etc.] ends here on earth. Do not forget that there is some Power above, he may call it God, that watches him and also judges him according to his words and deeds. Praying for him.

These visits - to the PM,HM - seem to me a political stunt, a clear conspiracy to blame-game in the making.

Dear CM, are these visits a proof of your inability to handle the situation yourself on the one hand and on the other a conspiracy to hatch a blame-game against the ruling party - that it has not taken action in spite of your having "approached" them.  I admire (and I am ashamed) of the extent of the games you can put forth. Are you so weak a man? Or are you so strong a politician?

Do not forget that 'power' [muscle power, tongue power etc.] ends here on earth. It is the good that you do, you carry across this material world. Do not forget that there is some Power above, you may call it God, that watches you and also judges you according to your words and deeds. Praying for you.
