Mangalore, Jul 17: A discussion on the Gregory Patrao case took place in the deputy commissioner’s (DC) office on Saturday July 17.

DC V Ponnuraj, with other officials, visited the Kalavar where Patrao’s family lived in a shed after the demolition. The discussion was held at the DC’s office by regional commissioner Jayanthi in the presence of everyone involved in the case.

Speaking to Daijiworld, the regional commissioner said that they wanted to solve the case as soon as possible and five demands have been put forward to Patrao and the others involved.

“The things belonging to Patrao which were damaged or taken away cannot be given back till the case is withdrawn by Patrao and Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB), Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL), and Mangalore Special Economic Zone (MSEZ), as cases from both sides are pending in court”, said Jayanthi.

“There is a plan to give separate land to Patrao as a substitute, but he wants his ancestral land. The file has been submitted to the government and the case will be soon solved”, she added.

Speaking to Daijiworld, Patrao said that PA Jose from MRPL administration said that there will be problem for his land in future due to the chemicals of the industry and had asked him to vacate the land.

Patrao also accused the company of making false promises of providing jobs to the displaced farmers’ families. He said, “I am the managing director (MD) of my land. If you make me MD of your company then I may leave the land as you give false promises of jobs to the farmer’s family”.

He added that some officials of KIADB are staying in the same location including surveyor and regional officer who are waiting to make money and the decisions of officials are getting influenced by corruption.

Assistant commissioner Prabhuling Kavilikatte, MSEZ chief executive officer and chief executive officer AG Pai, KIADB office of the special land acquisition officer S Krishna Murthy, and supporters of Gregory were present at the discussion.

First of all, how can the demolition of the house be undertaken without the court order in hand?? Is it not a CRIMINAL conspiracy and deep injustice? Can any compensation match this injustice?

Now, second strategy would be to chase Mr. Patrao family by surrounding them with toxic wastes.

One simple question to the people eager to set up industries in Mangalore: can any one give a public undertaking that the pure drinking water and required amount of electricity will be given to the residents oif Mangalore after setting up the insustries??? Come on, we need answer.

KIADB has been the epicentre of corruption in the State for decades. It is the source of funding for politicians and officials. Worst still for DK and Udupi is Mr. Ponnuraj and Mrs Hemalatha Ponnuraj are the DCs. The husband and wife are corrupt to the core and keep dancing to the tune of the industrialists apprently not for free.

Few weeks our dear chiefminister went on industry mela and got promise for lot industries in states to the tune of 300,000 crores. Most of those industries were steel and cement. Where all those indutries be located? in Air or on land. Surely we will eat only steel, cement, garbage, ash and poison sooner than later. Man's greed has no limits.

KIADB is clearly acting as an agent for land grabbing. This is not the first case where in thousands of acres of land has been acquired by KIADB in the name of industrialization. Look at what happened at Ganjimut Export Promotion Park – not a single unit has come in the facility even after 5 years after the allotment of the land to the companies. The KIADB policy clearly states that the land should be taken back if the construction process is not started within 3 years from the date of allotment. The modus operandi is simple – KIADB will acquire the land for the Corporate at below market prices and companies pay the officials including the Politician’s. BJP or any party to that matter does not have a moral right to protest against the price rice. What they are doing is taking the agricultural land from the farmers and contributing the inflation.

It's quite surprising how this poor farmer brought his problem to the attention of the state. Initially everybody thought he is just a beggar outside DC office. But Patrao now has become a hero among farmers and his struggle has filled in lot of confidence among farmers who are always in a fear of losing their land. He may not have got the support of politicians but got enough support from media. Keep it up Patrao !!!

BJP/RSS and udupi mutt Swami only want to save cows from slaughter not humans specially the farmers, where are the NGO's , what happened environmental impact studies when building chemical companies in a fertile green land is it confined to files. If BJP wants development, why did it not choose some waste land, Patroa's land is not waste land. All in all never give Congress or BJP majority rule let them rule with help of independents this keeps these parties on tight leash. BJP is a fascist party not a Hindu party, and congress is even more dangerous, so people think next time you vote.

This MRPL looting the land like anything in the name of extention. Mangaloreans land is grabed & jobs are given to other than Karnataka people. We dont want polluting industries. There are many non polluting industries. Patro's land looted like anything & torchered him like anything. Mangalore climate is totally gone & polluted due to these industries.

Where were all these people during Patrao hunger peaceful stirke front of DC office. Come on people be realistic in life to farmers. Don't take it lightly. If you don't help and support farmers there will be no food to eat. Be serious and stop supporting these polutting industry like MRPL.

In Mangalore every third person is suffering from kind of health problems because these kind MRPL looter of health and farmers land nothing else to Mangaloreans. All jobs are given to outsiders and only pollution is distributed to Mangaloreans. Be comeout in groups and stop these industries in Mangalore. Encourage good industries whcih can help people and keep environment clean and green.
