I really appreciate the modern techniques now available to our police too. Oh. my God I can see only hell in our Mangalore Roads. No public official is bothered nor responsible for the delay in concretising and inconvenience caused to the general public. Our house tax is increased by the MCC like the facilities given in a super speciality hospital/Hotel. Still we Mangaloreans are educated peace loving people and not bothered about the ill-wills of public officials are tolerating the nuisance meted to us
Now coming to the drunken driving police authorities have not clarified how many pegs are allowed while driving? Why because most of our law makers and law protectors are in habit of drinking one or two pegs before reaching home., otherwise they attend any party alongwith their collegues or in some functions like marriage, b'day party there is no celebration without alcohol. So how many alcohol drinkers can afford to have a driver to their vehicle or whether the police authorities are arranging free transport facility to those who have all the above pleasure occasionally or daily? May God save our system and poor people of India

Today onwards we must keep Rs 100 in our pocket. These days we are kept only Rs 50 for Helmate ruls. Some pc`s today onwards very happy. Sir,first do the correction on your department,then only u can advice others.

may i request gentlemen who give their comments about traffic regulations to give also their suggestions to Mr. Patrao who is homeless. We see around us in the society people being homeless, some not reciving thier pensions etc etc there are various problems. Can we please lend our helping hand to them, rather than giving some advise to the policemen.

As correctly said, people need to correct themselves first, allowing easy administration. Having such a complex society with all the traits, it is not an easy task though.

It is imperative from some of the loose comments by the readers. When a society itself makes fun of its own culture and abuses its own road with fumy roaring vehicles without valid reason for the trip, that is where the problem creeps in the pandora box.

When the kerosene was rationed, half of the polution problem disappeared from the rickshaw exhausts. When API files bankruptcy, the entire problem of Indian road would disappear with no more rickshaws produced. With the recent petorl price de-subsidization move, part of the problem is going to dissolve soon.

But the real threat today is from the Gas tankers, ore and granite carriers. Moreover, all the vehicles carry twice the load than the limit and puts every pedestrian's life into risk.

Then comes the drainage issue. Roads built without a drain is like a mythical lion "Pi Xiu" china which only has inlet.

Solving problem needs several hands to join. Traffic, administration, judiciary, academic (compulsory driving classes) and public who respect others life.

The increasing number of Spinal, ENT, Cardiac clinics are the only witnesses of the system-drawback.

Dear Mr. S. Singh, it is a good move towards lowering accident rates in Mangalore. We welcome your idea. Before you really go ahead with implementing this, request you to please take up few steps like :
** please educate concerned police officials with official limit of allowed alcohol content.
** police personnel should be trained with a little more inter personal skills to deal with people, like be a little courteous and gentle.
** please ensure public is made aware of this system and then go on with penalising the culprits.
** when we enforce a law, let us be true to implement it and not give loop holes to people to get away with it.
** mobile banning while driving is very important coz it will save a lot of innocent lives.
** ensure proper zebra crossing is available near all schools and colleges, major junctions n important cross roads, in the city.
** try and have a surprise visit to various colleges to check on vehicle documents of students who bring vehicles to colleges, most of them below age, without proper documents.
** try and get the rule of banning black tinted glasses coz these vehicles pose threat to other drivers n commuters most of the times.
** try and find out on few responsible citizens to give the authorities valuable suggestions so that you also have won the confidence of citizens.

Equipping the police with alcohol detector will not serve any purpose. First let the commissioner introduce proper traffic system within the city. The traffic police on duty at stretigic points are seen busy chatting on their mobile phones or taking rest in the shade near the building. It is evident that they are not interested in controlling the traffic, instead they are busy moving around with red cards in their hands and finding out offenders.

The moment they see the vehicles(private or public) from other States, they are on their heels to stop them and harass. There are only concrete roads. No footpath, no parking place, no drains and no Zebra crossing. The concretisation has taken place in such a way that it caters only to the vehicles. The safety of the public specially the children, women and old people have been ignored totally. To cite an example, road from Collectors Gate(From petrol pump) to Jyothi Circle, there was no Zebra Crossing. The young and the old have to climb the divider and cross the road to move from one side to the other.First solve these problem Mr.Commissioner in consultation with the District administration and implement your schemes.

I have read with interest the recent development with regard to subjecting drivers to alcohol tests if found driving under the influence of drinks. This is not a new idea as this prevalent in advanced Countries like U.S.A., Canada and the European Countries.

The roads in Mangalore are for ever under repairs and with many buses exceeding the prescribed speed limits and the rickshaws overtaking from both sides - a car owner is fortunate if he reaches home without an accident. In this context I had spoken to a senior Police Officer and stated that the problems created by the people should be solved by the people. I had also suggested certain norms for smooth flow of traffic. The people know the problems and they can indeed subscribe by way of ideas and help The Department of law and Order.

With my experience of driving exceeding over seventy years in India and over thirty years in The United States I would be happy to offer my services to Law Enforcement People to ensure better traffic Control.

Mr. Police Commissioner, thank you very much for realizing the grave situation of highly erratic, unruly mess of traffic in Mangalore, which required a major surgery many many years back.

But don’t you think it would be much better if the police take the first step to correct the blunders left unattended so far? Then Mangalore will be much better place with the existing roads

Here are few of my observations .

1.Most of the Bus stops (Especially donated ones) are in the worst possible places with total disregard for the safety rules.( eg. Stop at PVS Junction Traffic Lsignal: All buses stopping here invariably turn right causing traffic going straight to forcibly cut lanes at the traffic signal.
2.All side roads joining M.G roads have buses stopping at either side of the junction,one side obscuring the speeding vehicles of M.G. road, the other stop blocking the
turning vehicle, with no place for the turning vehicle to stop in the middle without blocking.

3.No body ever follows the right of way at ant circle. Only might is right is followed.
4.Most of the two wheelers overtake from the left side even if the vehicle is turning left with indicator on.
5.Parking of vehicles is pathetic and their only consideration is space and never think how the person who have parked earlier would take his vehicle.
6.Foot paths should be designed for walking and should be good enough for trolleys so that in future separate parking ar

It is definitely a good move.But the administrators also have to provide a good transport system for people to reach their destination after their drinks, just as in mumbai.If proper transport system is available definitely a lot of people will make use of it. Another point is it will increase corruption too.

According to the rule book, I remember reading somewhere, -The legal blood alcohol limit for driving is 80 milligrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood (80mg%) equivalent to 35 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, or 107 milligrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of urine.

People drive in a drunken fashion to avoid potholes. Every non concrete road in Mangalore has more craters than the moon. Please fill up the potholes and avoid more than 50% of the accidents

I see it as a positive move. We are aware that - traffic police still lags strict law imposition.

Still far to go in this rattle trap situation. Nobody uses dimmer light. Roads have got no barrier that prevents lights of opposite vehicle blindening the on-comer. Nobody cares about speed-limt. Pedestrians cross high-ways. No proper pavement. Pubs are readily available on highway-side.

Driving license is still given on a low-five (payment beneath)basis. Nobody knows what lanes are for, if exist. and list goes on for drivers.

But importantly - police force dont know why artificial metal barricades to be placed on the highway which is not visible to the rushing vehicle thus unnecessarily creating more and more accidents.

It is time for the traffic police dept to look at these. Today, vehicle owning simply sounds like owning a AK-47 bt the public.

Dear Mr. Commossionner All Officers. I am not sure what is the legal limit to drive? Can you pls advice? I am sure most of the cops will not know what is the legal limit? Sir you don't need all this rubbish in our country. Just put all your cops outside all the bars in M'lore you can see a hundred bikes parked in front of the bar. They are not drinking pure milk inside there, i know, u know, everybody knows. Just out some cops outside every bar and your lock up will get filled or all your cops will become rich within an hour.

The instrument will come out only at night it seems. Which officer will hold the instrument without the influence of Alcohol. This is useful only after the accident because, police reach the spot only after 2 to 3 hours from the time of accident.

The fence is for defense. If the fence eats/drinks/consumes the defense what is the purpose of such equipments? First the defense must be free of alcohol. The corruption should be stopped first by the law makers. Do they have such guts that I will not touch corruption? If the law makers indulge in corruption what will be the fate of government servants and other citizens of India. One should notice during the transfers of sub-inspectors and other police officers in suit cases to obtain their preferred places of transfers. That is a chain from ministers to file handlers and others. It is a well known fact The recent development in our state was law makers are excluded from the empowerment from the Lokayuktha. A CLEAN CHIT FOR ROBING MORE FROM EVERYWHERE.

Educating the traffic laws to the Driver's license seeker prior to the issuance of the Driver's License is a must. All are aware how easy it is to obtain a driver's license in India. We are still in trial and error process. 90% of drivers on the road are unaware of the rules and regulations. They dont even know the use of dimmer dipper lights, signal lights, hazardous lights, safe distance, who is priority while aproaching the roundabout, thus the list goes on............
