Railway Zone: Merger of Mangalore with Mysore Division Sought

The Hindu

Mangalore, Jul 20: Alarmed by the reported attempts by the MPs from Kerala to form a new railway zone headquartered at Thiruvananthapuram, the associations of commuters in the costal Karnataka are planning to put pressure on MPs from this region to seek merger of Mangalore with the Mysore division.

The associations have learnt that the Kerala MPs have submitted a proposal to the Railway Board demanding that Mangalore, Konkan Railway line, up to Madgaon and Hassan sections, should be part of the new zone at Thiruvananthapuram.

The Kerala MPs have also sought the formation of a division with Mangalore as headquarters, with jurisdiction up to Madgaon and Hassan. The railway line from Thokur near here to Madgaon is presently part of the Konkan Railway Corporation Ltd., (KRCL), while Hassan is part of the Mysore division of South-Western Railway, headquartered at Hubli. Mangalore is presently part of the Palakkad division of Southern Railway.

“We want our MPs to fight for merger of Mangalore with Mysore division,” said Anil Hegde, convener of the West Coast Rail Yathri Development Committee. This merger would ensure that a majority of the railway network in Karnataka remains with one zone, headquartered in the State.

“Even though we feel proud to have Mangalore division, once it is formed, it will be merged with the proposed Thiruvanathapuram zone,” said R.L. Dias, president of the Railway Yatri Sangha in Udupi through a note to The Hindu.

Hegde and Dias favoured retaining the KRCL as a separate entity, as it was maintaining its stations very well.

Hegde said that efforts were on to merge it with the Indian Railways, which should not be allowed to happen.

Read Navin's comments which is the most rational one. Imagine a Mangalore airport without a single keralite flying into. Imagine all trains passing through kerala stops at Manjeswar. How many trains can be between Mysore and Mangalore. One more thing. Compare the progress made by Mangalore under Palakkad division and Mysore under a division headquartered in Karnataka.

Our MP's, political persons from all parties are useless. They are not able to divert one train to Karwar from Bangalore. What they will do. Whole Coastal belt should be merged with Kerala. Then only we can see some development. We people of coastal region electing all useless leaders. God only save Coastal Region.

Why many of us against the state govt. and MLA MPs of d.k. dist. why not they talk about the central minister like muniyappa, and other 4 ministers from karnataka in central govt. why can't they pressure to them. Becauase the persons who are against the state ruling part can also do this work by putting pressure on their own party which is ruling in centre.

Dear Namita.Your comments and views are ridiculous. You shouldn't have blamed Mallus like this. Because of their attitude they reached to this level and are proud of that. Any way the proposed merger will have benefit for mangaloreans also as any railway developements for north Kerala begins from Mangalore. As like Bajpe airport we never support any move that may harm Mangalore as it will ultimately effect north keralites.. Lets see how its beneficial.

What our MPs doing? Planning a communal riots, pub attacks church attacks, mines poaching??? Please Learn from Kerala MPs. See how clever are they. There is no use in closing gates of town after the robbery. I have very little hopes with our MPs and political leaders but can not tolerate what is happening on Railway issues

It is good to listen that we are getting a new zone. It is one and the same if it goes to mysore or thiruvanthapuram. we should be happy that we are getting a new railway zone.

If Karnataka merge with Kerala and ruled by Maliyali leaders there will be more developments and Reddy Chaddis has to go back home. Also to eat beef we don't have to go to Trivendrum. Delicious beef cury, sukka, beef kurma, beef fry everything in namma kudla

Please stop being regional chauvinists, this is a good thing. Much of the current railway facilities in Mangalore are because of the aggressive efforts of Keralites and their strong political lobby.

Let Mangalore be part of the south zone Trivandrum head quarters rather than merging with mysore! if merges there is no benefits than simply say its all with in the state, but being part of trivandrum zone a lot many passengers get benefited as effort will be taken collectively by the kerala public and ministers and mangaloreans can just use the facilities without any hard work done. comments from foreign will be with mysore mangalore merging plan and these people may havent used the train facilities yet in their life. like keralites these guys are there in Kuwait and other gulf nations next to mallu power trying to create another scrambled power house.

Mallu  More famous than the eight footed Paul. You name a place and it's already been infested by these tribes - UK US Aussie NZL Canada Africa list goes on and on never ending.

Merger of Mangalore Railways is more ideal than merger with Thiruvananthapuram. Time will not be far away when the ever Exuberant Mangies will come to be recognised as the Mangi Mallus, how does it sound... Naaaaaaaa not good at all.

Wake up Govt of Karnataka and do something before it's too late. Belgaum Hubli Dharwad to Maharashtra Mangalore to Mallus and then Kolar to Kongus. There will be nothing left to be called KARNATAKA (^.^)...

With so much of internal political chaos within Karnataka, open invitation to neighbours to grab what they can while they can...

Wake up now. If you do not know please note this "Mallu power, super power". I came to know this only after coming to Kuwait what these people are. They are ready to take Kuwait but no givers. So many of them have not gone to India for so many years hoping for Kuwaiti citizenship. So act now to stop them to claim Mangalore in Kerala state in near future.
