Media Release
Muscat, Jul 21: Tuesday, July 20 is a day of great happiness for proud parents David and Lina of 13-year-old Davina as she received her prize for the sixth rank in the winners section of the art competition conducted by Bank Muscat and Omantel, for children between 6-18yrs of age on theme, “40th Year of Renaissance in Oman”, recently. The prizes were given away at the event that took place in Al Bustan Palace Hotel here.
My Passion My Dream! Yes, these were the running thoughts through the mind of little Davina five years ago when she first bagged the prize for the Oman Air Calendar Art Competition. She never knew where her hidden creative talent would lead her, while her amazing parents David and Lina Fernandes were zapped with the performance of their first born.
A family of five, the children Davina, Royala and Prince are an understood lot. Davina the oldest, is a quiet yet observant child who has a passion for art and craft. Since small many of whom who have watched Davina in her growing years have seen her passion come alive at every small yet important attempt wherever her hands had the opportunity to go for it.
Her talent came to the fore when she won the award for the “best designed card” for Mother’s day organized by NIDO. Davina works on all her drawings with pencils and has not made attempts with paints or crayons. With the growth she is witnessing in the field, in the future she is sure to foray into varied avenues in arts and crafts.
Her designs intrigues and fine art is where her heart dwells into. Her hands move with forward strokes and never revert or turn back to deepen or darken a line for clarity. Whatever she portrays, there is a definite theme set in her mind and for her there is never two-ways about her objectives, set at hand.
At the recent announcement of the art competition conducted by Bank Muscat and Omantel, for children between 6-18yrs of age, where the drawings had to depict their vision on paper about the theme, “40th Year of Renaissance in Oman” Davina spent a good two hours first to think what she would like to put-on-paper relevant to the theme requested. Within two days she completed three drawings and submitted them before the deadline. This was a true amazement for many of us friends to the family.
40,000 entries from children of various denominations poured in. This was something really tedious and mind-boggling for the judges to finalize a list of the best entries at hand. Nevertheless, soon the day arrived when Davina was selected among 100 names short-listed from a total of 40,000.
