Mumbai, Jul 3: Bollywood star Sunny Deol has officially stepped into the mythological universe of Ramayana, taking on the revered role of Lord Hanuman in Nitesh Tiwari’s highly anticipated cinematic retelling of the ancient epic. Sharing his enthusiasm with fans, Deol took to Instagram to reveal the film’s first look teaser, expressing deep gratitude and pride in being part of a story that has shaped Indian culture across generations. "Honoured to be part of a story that has shaped generations… Grateful to walk this path, and to share it with all of you," he wrote.

The film, helmed by Dangal director Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios in collaboration with Yash’s Monster Mind Creations and Oscar-winning VFX powerhouse DNEG, aims to present the legendary tale with unprecedented visual grandeur and emotional depth. Titled Ramayana, the project marks a landmark effort in Indian cinema, bringing together top creative talent to deliver a global-scale production.

The makers unveiled the first character glimpses on Thursday, beginning with a striking animated sequence that portrays the cosmic forces of Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva, before introducing the central trio: Ranbir Kapoor as the virtuous Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as the graceful Sita, and Yash as the formidable Ravana. Accompanying the reveal was a note from the makers underscoring a decade-long journey of relentless dedication to bring India’s greatest epic to life — one grounded in reverence and cinematic excellence.

Director Nitesh Tiwari shared that Ramayana is more than just a film; it is a cultural offering. “It’s a tale that has endured across millennia because it speaks to something deep and eternal within us. Our aim was to honour that soul — and present it with the cinematic scale it truly deserves,” he said, calling the endeavour both a responsibility and a privilege.

With an ambitious two-part release strategy, Ramayana is slated to hit theatres worldwide with Part 1 during Diwali 2026, followed by Part 2 in Diwali 2027. As anticipation builds, the film is already being hailed as a defining moment for Indian mythological storytelling on the global stage.
