Mangalore, Jul 21: The structures on encroached areas and unauthorized establishments were demolished by the officials Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) on Wednesday July 21.

The officials carried out the demolition works as per the orders of deputy commissioner V Ponnuraj. The owners of unauthorized buildings were informed about the same two days in advance.

The demolition works commenced from Juice Junction at Balmatta, where a part of an illegal extension which was made to cater to customers was cleared off. It obstructed the traffic in the area. The parking plots near Bendorewell commercial complex was also demolished with the view to extend the roads for the free movement of traffic.

Despite some kind of opposition from the shop keepers and building owners the work went on pretty smoothly.

The MCC officials have revealed that the some more unauthorized buildings will be demolished in the city to facilitate ongoing development projects.

We had filed a writ petition in the High Court of Karnataka. The Division Bench before whom the writ came up for hearing passed the order in favour of the Builder because MCC officials told the Court that they have already legalised the extra constructions of 5 flats and 2 penthouses. But in realty, it is not true. How to handle these people?? Will DC and Mangalore City Corporation Commissioner Dr. Vijayaprakash take action. No Sir No Sir. They are our people. We demolish only poor people dwelling Units. Sori

In the 80s few mischievious MUDA officials were tempting the builders to voilate the rules for a price which is distributed among the officials of MUDA. The greedy builders agree to it and finally during the time of completion certificate these builders are caught at MCC. Again the higher authorities in MCC takes bribe and show them few loop holes to hide their illegal structures for a fat cut. Finally the MCC gives the Occupation Certificate with a small penalty which is passed by the Standing Committee which too was corrupt.
The builders sold their unauthorised units to the prospective buyers years back. At this juncture those corrupt officials in MUDA, MCC & Standing Committee have retired and few of the builders have retired from the contruction business. Is it the right method to attach/destroy those units which have unauthorised portion in their dwelling premises? Why DC & MCC were sleeping all these years? Those unauthorised portion existed originally in the dwelling premises should be allowed to get regularised through Akrama Sakrama scheme with a penalty.
Now the Govt should pass a bill to punish those officials who show loop-holes for a cut and suspend those builders found selling unauthoried structures to the innocent buyers. Also they should pass a bill to make the builder submit their Structural Design to the Departments for counter check of their load bearing & safety factors.

Illegal apartments & complexes although not direct obstruction to the enlargement of road constructions, should never be allowed in the first place. The road side encroachments are nuisances. The pedestrians are hardly left with any space to walk around, it s a nightmare in some places. Can MCC also look into the road construction of Valencia/Jeppa area.. It’s in a pathetic condition and has claimed two lives in the last three months due to the incomplete work.

Vishu, you are 100% right. They make it a big news by just pulling down a petty shop.

Doesnt our beloved Deputy Commissioner ji know know about all those illegal apartments and shops ? He knows it very well. By the time he reacts to it he will be transferred to some other place.
We people say that our present DC is a rough & tough person. But actually he is not. He is good only to make those daily wage earners suffer but doing all such things.
