Tumkur, Jul 21: One can achieve anything in life, provided one has a clear goal, self-respect and determination to achieve the set goal. And here is an example of such achievement by a blind individual Muddanna, a native of Gubbi taluk, in the district, here.

Muddanna lost his eyesight when he was just 2-year-old. However, he did not lose his perspective to achieve something worthwhile in life and completed MSW and now employed as taluk Child Development Project Officer (CDPO), wherein he discharges his duties to the best of his abilities at par with any normal person.

It's really noteworthy indeed for physically handicapped to reach such a state in life, when there are many in our midst who waste their precious life, despite being blessed with good physique and are reasonably educated. There are a few who don’t work properly, even though they have steady jobs, while Muddanna is holding a responsible post in government service and is known for efficiency.

Muddanna originally hails from Chintamani in Chikballapur district. He completed his primary and high school studies in Ramana Maharshi Special School, Bangalore. He has done his graduation from St Joseph’s College, Bangalore and succeeded in getting MSW from Bangalore University during 2005. Meanwhile, he had applied for the post of CDPO under women and Child welfare department. He got the job as CDPO and is now serving the department since two years.

Although, I have lost the eyesight in my early childhood, I did not lose my perspective in life,’ says Muddanna.  Meanwhile, he has the happiness over achieving significant in life, with the co-operation of all and has the hope to continue rest of his life with zest. Although, he had done his primary and high school studies in a special school, he attended the regular college like other normal students. Muddanna acknowledges the support of everyone including his family that has given the strength to a significant position in life.

Muddanna replied that it’s been two years he has been working in the government office, and faced no problems since he got well-adjusted to office environment. He has been attending various training workshops in the department besides gives training to junior staff. He trusts on office staff over money matters, while in most essential cases, he seeks the help of his brother Muniraj, said Muddanna.

Muddanna also has no difficulty handling mobile phone that has been installed with voice enabled software. Therefore, any calls to his mobile number converts into voice when his phone rings.

Despite blindness, Muddanna has been functioning efficiently and earned recognition for being an excellent CDPO. Muddanna oversees the operations of 452 Anganawady centres in the taluk. The deputy director of district women and child welfare department appreciated the efficiency of Muddanna during a programme of Karnataka Bala Vikasa Academy, held at District Institute of Educational and Training (DIET) here, recently. All the junior and senior staff in his office holds him in high esteem.
