Udupi, Jul 23: Heavy winds accompanied by thunder and rain on Wednesday July 21, left a trail of damage across the district. Property worth a few lac rupees was destroyed by nature’s fury.

The tiled roof of S V S High School, Katpady, was blown away on Wednesday night.  The furniture and fixtures including teaching materials were damaged in many classrooms of the school.

The school authorities announced a holiday on Thursday July 22, and attempted to restore the roof damaged by the heavy rains.

Many electric poles all over the district collapsed in heavy winds and the state-run public utility provider Mescom deployed several workmen to restore the electricity supply.

The erosion prone coast also witnessed turbulence in the Arabian Sea all along the sea shore.  Government officials led by Tahsildar Prasanna assessed the losses caused by rain damage here on Thursday.
