Mangalore: M S Sathyu's 'Ijjodu' Hits Silver Screen in City

Mangalore, Jul 23: M S Sathyu’s much talked about Kannada movie ‘Ijjodu’ that depicts the lives of Devadasis was released at New Chitra theatre here on Friday July 23.

Addressing the audience, renowned Hindi actor Farooq Sheikh said that Anirudh had done a commendable job as an actor. He praised the other actors too, especially Meera Jasmine who he said had taken acting to the level of perfection with this role. Commenting on the movie, he said that Ijjodu has a deeper meaning which would reveal itself as the story unfolds.

Director M S Sathyu said that the movie consists of actual village scenes and the story focusses on the turmoil of two minds, that of the hero and the heroine.

M S Sathyu, lead actor Anirudh and Farooq Sheikh were honoured on the occasion. Vice-chancellor of Mangalore University T C Shivashankar Murthy, St Aloysius College principal Swebert D’Silva, former Lion district governor Alwyn Patric Patrao, director of Jeevan Mitra Edwin Walter and others were present.
