The deceased duo has been identified as Cecelia D'Souza (35) and Molly D'Souza, both residents of Adamkudru here and were waiting near the door to alight when the bus turned turtle following which they came under the bus. The people traveling in Tata Sumo (KL 14 G 2980) have been identified as driver Manmohan (25), who has received serious injuries, Ramesh (26), Suryaprakash (22) and Bharat (12). Mangalore: Two Churchgoers Dead, Several Injured in Ghastly Accident

Mangalore, Jul 25: Mangaloreans woke up to a rude shock on Sunday July 25 morning when, in a ghastly accident, two churchgoers died on the spot when a private bus plying from the city to Kenya near Konaje hit a Tata Sumo near Tokkotu junction at around 6.05 am.

According to an eyewitness, the driver of the bus drove on the wrong side of the road to avoid a pothole. Passengers who were near the doorstep lost balance and fell out. The bus crushed them on the spot.

The Sumo, which was plying from Kerala had a puncture and collided with the bus injuring several passengers. Reportedly, at least five people have sustained serious injuries. However, all passengers who were in the Sumo escaped without a scratch.

The identity of victims is yet to be established, but it is learnt that both were women.

More details awaited.

Very sad news, but no need to comment on Mangalore city bus drivers. These drivers must be well trained how to take Precaution where there is potholes or turn. Mostly drivers are driving with style & guts, not caring precaution. Such drive's license must be cancelled immediately, unless they modify their driving. People should be given helpline number to contact police to complain such drivers' driving. But police too can do nothing good. Don't know whom to complain.

Sad news. May the departed souls rest in peace.

Thokottu junction is not a ordinary junction now.

Roads connected to four directions one goes to Mangalore city 2 roads goes to Mangalore university all Hospital another is connected to Kerala state Highway as well.

All connected to important places with 4 diversions.

And a very busy Junction. A special care is required with ply over , Humps, round the clock Traffic police, Traffic signals.

Will the concerned authorities look in the matter.

I am worried of Mangalore roads as well as behaviour of Drivers and Conductors. They are not worried about the passengers, they only see that the other bus should not go front. Its my request to the concerned person to conduct some seminars about accidents, show some video clips of struggles after the accidents of home people, how it affects their family life.

all are feeling sad towards the incident. but why cant we raise the voice against the speeding vehicles?.... The dead will not be back, but we can avoid such incidents by punishing the culprits with very strict actions and chrages. Let the law take a proper action against them. My prayers are for the dead and for the family who lost their dear ones. Hope the injured get their rights (treatment and compensation) and rightful manner. Hope we will not see such accidents in future. Only constructing high-rise buildings and flyovers or widening roads will not help develop our state, but proper guidance and maintenance will make it prosperous.

Our hearts go out to the dead and concren to the injured. These are avoidable 'accidents' the consequence of rashness,
negligence and safety being ignored. this is often visible in the city. Traffic rules and laws are flouted by all concerned, unless the laws are concentiously followed with integrity these increasing incidents can NOT be controlled.
It is high time that the concerned take serious stock of matters. May the dead be granted Eternal Rest and their kith and kin obtain solace in their grief.

Nobody knows how the death will come to each one of us.If hardly saying, nobody is safe, stepping out of the home itself is a dangerous thing. As in this case,I dont think pathhole is the reason for this accident, reason is carelessness and blindness on road. All the bus drivers in mangalore region driving like running race. Our heartfelt condolences to the families of dead, nobody can get back the dead back.May the God give strength to his family to bear this huge loss.

It is really very shocking news. may lord grant the eternal peace to the departed soul.
This type of accidents happens only because of reckless driving. All are knows that Thokkotu junction is a very busy junction. if the traffic authorities will install the traffic signal on this road may reduse the risk and also requird some major humps on all three roads.and one more noted point is that near by junction there is a checkpost, and because of that goods vehicles are parking by side of the road and the drivers of the vehicles which are coming from Konaje road cant see the highway properly unless they enter the junction and press the breack suddenly. some times before there was a traffic police used to stand in the small circle middle of the junction but nowdays some gots are sleeping there. by seeing this I feel that(1) better to move the check post little further, (2)Introduce timed traffic signals on all three roads (3) Make some humps on all three roads, (4)build a proper busstand by canceling nearby petrol pump, If the authorities take some of steps from these may reduse so meny accidents and deaths.

Heart felt condolences to the bereaved families...it is not accident, it is like cold blood murder!
I totally agree with Mr. Joy the DC & all those responsible should take moral responsibility for all the mishaps that happen on our roads, as it is a sheer case of system failure. It was just yesterday, that a Kerala road transport bus banged my wifes car from behind near the Nethravathi bridge, when she was on her way to work - A case of rash driving (Common in DK) & pot holes here too! We the common man of India are tested for our resilience.
It is high time, all the responsible people, ute deligence in their responsibilities & are made accountable.
Let us make Mangalore a Safe place to live & develop it in growing INDIA.

Extremely Sad to see this horrific accident. The pothole was left open for the disaster to happen. Who to blame? Hundreds of accidents and thousands of reminders to these drivers are all in vain. Their skull is too thick to go anything in. And our MCC? Too quick to demolish the illegal encroachments but criminally negligent to oversee the road condition.

Two good people on their way for worship were called by The Lord unto himself. It is a matter of great regret that one reads about Road accidents almost every day. There is no use crying over spilled milk but what can be done to avoid these ghastly accidents?. Some time ago there was a move to fit public transport vehicles with speed governors. I think this idea should be reviewed and implemented. It is true that The Bus Owners' association has a strong lobby. It is expedient that the ball be put in their courts and ask them to come out with concrete proposals to control these kind of accidents to save precious lives.

Very sad and upset to see the situation. This is my regular drive spot whenever I be in the city. I am 100% aware about these buses. They have no control and they think they are the Raja's of the marg(Road Kings). I request Mr. Ponnuraj our hon'ble DC to take strict action against all these private and KSRTC (both KA and KL) against overspeeding and uncontrollable driving. This has to be done by you because our politicians are busy behind their dirty politics.

I call upon the epople of kanrantaka to take the issue into their hands. Karnataka adminstration has utterly failed to protect the interest of common man. They are busy in looting mineral wealth and opposition is too busy in blame game and are after power. Common man is suffering and losing his life. There is jungle raj in our state. State highways are the responsibilities of state governments. Where the money goes....only to the pockets of dirty and moraleless politicians.

MAY GOD GIVE STRENGTH TO THE FAMILY TO BEAR THIS UNEXPECTED LOSS. MAY THE SOULS DEPARTED REST IN PEACE

ALREADY ENOUGH DAMAGE HAS BEEN DONE

HAVE SEEN THE MOST OF THE VEHICLES PLYING IN THIS ZONE ORDER TO ESCAPE FROM THESE POTHOLES GO IN WRONG DIRECTIONS. WHY? THERE ARE TOO MANY POT HOLES IN THIS ZONE.

THESE POTHOLES ARE THERE FOR QUITE QUITE LONG TIME WHY THE AUTHORITIES CONCERNED DONT TAKE ACTION BEFORE ITS GOING TO BE TOO LATE.

IN THIS PARTICULAR CASE THE DRIVER SHOULD HAVE BEEN MORE CAUTIOUS SLOW DOWN BCOZ HE WAS ALMOST CLOSE TO BUS STOP.

TO SUM UP, UNLESS THESE POTHOLES ARE PATCHEDUP REPAIRED THESE KIND OF ACCIDENTS WILL KEEP ON OCCURING.

MORE LIKELY IF THERE WAS NO POTHOLE THIS ACCIDENT COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED.

Mr. Sujith Pinto, may be I am wrong in my comments & welcome your opinion. However, don't you think it is the responsibility of concerned authorities to maintain the roads ? If there was no pothole, the driver did not have to make move to avoid it. When the politicians are looting Karnataka worth 600 billions rupees (illegal mining), can't they spare same natural resources for the development of roads ? All party leaders are busy only in blame game and concerned about the power and chair....if citizens do not raise their voice, who will protect our Karnataka ?

After all, it is common, poor men who are losing their lives due to the negligence of our elected leaders. I do not condemn any particular party, but, all are same.

The reason is because of the lawyers who fight the case. The public should join hands together and hang the lawyer. It should be in Taliban style. where is Ram sena or Bajrang Dal.
