'Bellary Chalo' Padayatra Enters Second Day

Nelamangala, Jul 26 (PTI): The 'Bellary Chalo' padayatra by Opposition Congress in Karnataka against BJP government's alleged ''misrule'' and "failure'' to check illegal mining entered second day on Monday.

After breakfast at Harvard college, where the leaders stayed overnight, leader of the Opposition in Karnataka Assembly D Siddaramaiah led the yatra towards Nelamangala and Tumkur.

Lashing out Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, who had taken the padayatra lightly saying his party had also undertaken such stirs before, Siddaramaiah said, "Congress has a history of 125 years. It has held several agitations in the country. Congress need not learn lessons from BJP."

Yeddyurappa has been camping in Delhi to divert attention of people over the illegal mining issue, into which Congress is insisting on a CBI probe, he said.

"Yeddyurappa holds the departments of Forest, Mines and Geology. Why has he not checked illegal mining and is now asking the Centre to do it?" Siddaramaiah said flaying the Chief Minister's demand at the NDC meeting seeking Central intervention to ban export of iron ore.

"BJP has no faith in social justice and it is anti-democratic," said Siddaramaiah, who embarked upon the 320-km walk to Bellary accepting the challenge thrown at his party by ministers and mining magnets Janaradhana Reddy, Karunakara Reddy and Sriramulu daring the Congress to step into Bellary.

KPCC president R V Deshpande said, "This is not our final stir against the BJP government. It would begin from August 9, when the padayatra would be culminating at Bellary in a rally coinciding with the 'Quit India Movement' day."

"Countdown for the fall of the BJP government has begun," he said.

The Yatra so far...

I am astonished with some of the comments by BJP supporters here. They say padayatra is waste of people's money and some others suggest they have to go to Kashmir.

Are you not bothered about the illegal mining by mining mafia led by Reddy brothers? State has incurred losses upto thousands of crores of rupees.Chief minister is sleeping...and allowing this to happen for his chair. Only way is people to revolt and throw this government out .

Well said Mr. GANESH. Congress do not have guts to do padayatra in Kashmir because Kashmir problem is their own child. These useless state congress leaders now doing padayatra, why they did not make strict law against the illegal mining when they were in power till recently? What they did with the flood relief fund? Used it for padayatra (luxury vehicle, delicious food, cloths, shoes etc)?

Why do the BJP sympathizers always say Congress is the mother of all corruption? Please put your house in order first and then point fingers at other parties.
Agreed the previous regime were ***holes but that does not mean BJP have the license to be bigger ***holes.

Wish them safe padayatra. Because many more will collapse. We are electing them to discuss something in the assembly, these useless people wasting our money through this type of nuisance. People of Karnataka should teach Congress.

This yatra may not bring immediate results. But it has sure to have sent the message and BJP is uncomfortable and nervous about it. We have so many nervous reactions from leaders of BJP and some of the BJP supporters here.

As per BJP, nobody should react for their misdeeds and allow them to royally rob wealth of Karnataka by illegal mining.

This is an attempt by a political party to stop illegal mining, that is costing billions and getting reddy's and Yeddy's richer. Only a person with contempt on mother land, can watch it getting raped of its mineral wealth.

why is it called a congress rally, i dont understand, as the leaders who have jumped into the party over the few years are leading the rally. siddaramaih, was with JDS and was also the deputy chief minister when JDS was ruling. RV Deshpande was the indutries minister when JH Patel was the CM. VS Ugrappa was nominated as MLC by Devegowda. CM Ibrahim was the civil aviation misniter when Devegowda was the PM. Roshan baig was the wakf minsiter in the JH Patel minsiter. All the above mentione deladers were with JDS and now joined the congress. so their roots are JDS.

Where are the born congress leaders like - Krishna, Kharge, Moily, Poojary etc etc?
