Udupi: Twenty Students Injured as Tree Collapses on School Building

Udupi, Jul 29: More than 20 students of Manipur Government Composite High School near here were injured when a large tree collapsed on the classrooms following incessant rains that lashed the district on Thursday July 29.
 
The rains also caused heavy damage to Bada Yermal Government Pre-University College and High School blowing away due the tiled roof and damaging its kitchen, library and  laboratory. The walls have developed cracks and the rain water has seeped into the old school building.
 
In another incident, the walls of the house of a certain Wilfred Mascarenhas in Brahmavar collapsed due to the storm. Electrical gadgets and other belongings were covered in rubbles. Luckily, the family was away at the time of the incident and hence no casualties were reported.











The district-in-charge minister Dr V S Acharya paid a visit to the monsoon affected regions. Former state minister Vasant V Salian, zilla panchayat member Gerald Fernandes and other department officials also visited the rain-damaged locations.
 
Ucchila Bada gram panchayat president Chandrashekar S Kotian, development officer Pratapchandra Shetty, School development committee president Gulabi U Mendon, village accountant Jagdish visited Yermal Government School to assess the loss.
