Mangalore, Jul 29: City block education officer Kodandaram has announced that Friday July 30 will be a holiday for schools and colleges in the city.

The heavy rains which have lashed the city over the past few days have caused extensive damage to property and vegetation besides flooding some areas.

A house was damaged after an adjacent compound wall collapsed on it. Narayan Gowda, owner of the house, was pulled out from the rubble by his neighbours and is now admitted in a city hospital.

Floods at Attavar, Bunder, Car Street, Kottara, Jeppinamogaru, Kudroli, and many other low lying areas have affected the daily lives of city dwellers.

A tree which fell on the road at Jeppinamogaru blocked the road for a while disrupting traffic.

SUFFICIENT RAIN IS ENOUGH, I THINK FOR COUPLE OF DAYS THE RAIN HAS TO GO AWAY IN ORDER TO NORMALISE THE SITUATION.

Development sir, development. Roads are constructed without any provision for drains, footpath, piping. These things are bound to happen. I am pretty sure tenders will be on the offer next year to dig the roads and build drains.
