Mangalore, Jul 31: Traffic had lined up for over three kilometres up to Valachil from Padil here on national highway 48 creating a major chaos in the early morning on Saturday July 31.

An excavation of a hill was in progress since about three days at Padil here. Following heavy rains the loose mud slid on the roads on the wee hours of Saturday blocking the NH - 48 . Daily commuters and
students working and schooling in and around the area had to travel by foot, while two-wheelers are manoeuvring through the slushy route with difficulty amid works on clearing off the road.

The traffic moving towards Padil from the city has been diverted towards Konaje-Mudipu route.

I admire the patience, resilience and the comradeship of the common people - they get along with their daily chores and routines passing through all the hurdles, some even with a smiling face! Nice and clear pictures, Dayanand Kukkaje!

Where are our elected MP's and MLA's?. As long as the people defend their local elected representatives they will have no pressure to perform so these sort of things will happen. If the local representative were active the roads would not be this way,

Shame on Congress people. Look at the state of National Highways. We boast ourselves as "District of Intelligent people". But looking at this road one will never visit DK again. Moily/Krisha do something about NHs of DK.
Atleast please advice your congress party men to support BJP in its development activities in the state. Highway engineers making good money every rainy season. Sorry state of affairs in India. Pathetic..Feel sorry for people who has to cope will all these things in their daily life.

Its irrelavant to compare such situations with any government. The work is taken by NHAI an independent body which has no connection with any governments. Anywhere heavy rains happen, same is the scene and Mangalore cannot be an exception.

I am extremely surprised at the risks people are taking to ride and drive through. This is not good for people. They should opt to stay at home instead of walking or driving through. One nver knows which deep hole can suck a person inside a hole which cannot be seen.

I had travelled through this road recently and saw the hill cutting work going on just next to the railway bridge. There were houses below this hill and machineries were working alongside. Lucky that these houses were safe and no injuries to people. Really i felt sorry seeing these green hills being dug out for building new concrete houses. These hills never caused trouble to people ,but humans created their own

During my travel on NH 17 I noticed in abundance the ignorance of road safety by the contractors and supervising officials. D.C. need travel on this road and see how the traffic is managed in road diversion areas for road construction works. D.C's experience in tour to western country should be handy to handle the safety issue.

Before allowing digging a hill along the highway during rainy season requires some common sense if not technical knowledge. Our department engineer’s technical is questionable and require training on safe working practice. At time when you deal with the department engineers, one may feel they are only fit to work as an office clerk!!!
