Jim Reeves' Fans to Recall his Memory on Aug 1

Media Release

Mangalore, Jul 31:
James Travis Reeves, better known as Jim Reeves, was a popular American singer and songwriter of the 1950's and early 1960's. Death snatched him away at the pinnacle of his career when his private aircraft crashed on July 31, 1964 over the Tennessee Mountains in the US.

In his remembrance, The Jim Reeves Fans of South India, based in Mangalore, will hold a live show in the city at the Hotel Ocean Pearl on Sunday August 1, to bring back the late singer's voice alive.

His rich and melodious rendition had inspired and consoled millions of young and old across the world for over 40 years and he stands in the Hall of Fame along with Paul Robeson, Frank Sinatra, Matt Monroe, Englebert Humperdinck and Tom Jones, besides Elvis Presley.

When a small group of Reeves fans in Mangalore got together and decided to commemorate Jim Reeves in the city seven years ago, they never thought it would be a runaway hit of a great magnitude. What was initially planned as a private function grew to unimaginable levels drawing music-lovers from all parts of Dakshina Kannada, Kodagu and Udupi.

Enthusiastic fans like Richard Lasrado, Titus Noronha, Rohan Shiri and Max Karkada, joined by the finest group of talented musicians in town - Denzil Karkada, Oscar Weltha, Arun Shiri, Manoj Lazarus and Sunil Kumar, Rajgopal (lead ), Gladson ( Acoustic) and Jerome Coelho, Melwin Fernandes and Cloy Carvalho, joined by Nizel Simon from Calicut and Theo Alvares from Goa have kept the legend of Jim’s music in Mangalore alive. Max Karkada singing Jim Reeves' hits with irrepressible energy has done full justice to being almost close to the original legendary voice.

The very fact that the generations that were born much after his death have been his great fans speaks highly of Jim Reeves' talent and popularity.

We as a family are very fond of Jim Reeves music for decades. We have a large collection of Jim Reeves LP records, CDs and Cartridges which we used to play for our sons when they were small children. Jim Reeves music brings fond memories of the past. We have decided to donate these precious collections to the late Joseph & Leticia Lobo Audio-visual Center at the Beeri College of St. Aloysius MBA Center so that the students may enjoy the musical legacy of Jim Reeves. Late Joseph and Leticia Lobo family have dedicated a great deal towards music in Mangalore. We remember Aunt Leticia's voice with many of her children used to dominate the Xmas choir at St.Aloysius mid night service. Let all the fond memories prevail thru these precious ollections.

Jim Reeves' chritmas carols are all the favorite, I am his huge fan, every year for x'mas I play his carols. His song 'what a good friend I found in Jesus' a wonderful and meaningfull song, inspired him to write when he was lonely, disturbed and enter in a church and found his best friend Jesus.

Good luck and wish you success for your live show.
