Mangaluru, Apr 14: Former MLC and AICC secretary Ivan D'Souza warned of holding a protest if Adani’s name was not removed from the welcome arch at the Mangaluru International Airport.

Addressing media here on Wednesday, April 14, Ivan D'Souza said, "Through RTI we have come to know that after Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) was handed over to Adani, the inclusion of Adani’s name to the airport is a complete violation. Ever since the takeover, the progress at the airport has slowed down, there are no longer proper facilities, flights have been grounded which is also a violation of the agreement."

"Flights operating from Mangaluru to Mumbai and Mysuru have been stopped. Other companies too are taking a step back from operating flights from MIA. It is a complete violation of the agreement in the name of privatization," he added.

The airport authority should come up with a clarification of how they failed to provide flights to prominent places like Goa, Kozhikode, Kochi, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kalaburagi, Mysuru and Bidar from Mangaluru. Although Go-Air has come forward, their flights are yet to begin operations. If a flight to Bengaluru and Delhi is scheduled at 11:30 pm and 11 pm respectively how can one expect an influx of passengers, given the inconvenient flight timings," he added.

"It has been 16 years since the Mangaluru airport has been recognized as an international airport, other than flights to Gulf countries, the airport authority has failed to provide flights to tourist places like Sri Lanka, Thailand, Singapore and Bangkok. The city even has a lot of devotees who often visit Shirdi and Tirupathi and yet there is not a single flight available to these cities from Mangaluru. The city airport is on the verge of losing its recognition as an international airport due to a lack of passengers. The airport authorities have even failed to provide cargo flight connectivity. All in all, MIA has failed to become a people-friendly airport," said the former MLC.

"As per the UDAN scheme, an airport needs to be constructed at Udupi so that there is provision to provide flights to passengers at an affordable cost. Our MP lacks the willpower to sort this issue. The aviation minister should consider this or else Congress will conduct a 'Save Airport' campaign," warned Ivan D'Souza.

    You can't ask a company to change its name. The name of Mangaluru International airport has not changed. The board clearly says 'Welcome to Mangaluru International Airport'. 'Adani Airports' is the Company name which they have every right to display as they are managing the operations.

    Ivan Let me tell you the facts Dont waste your time & energy you cant do anything . Name doesnt do any diffrence .Still people call it as Bajpe airport so forget your protest .You can do better things than that. Try to improve your valencia are from Fr mullers road . She the shot garabage thrown near nandigudda grave yard road. Next the flights are stopped for a reason. If ygerexare no enough passengers how can they fly . Next you should have told all the guys who are sitting there to wear masks . That is the biggest mistake you have made .So forget protest Here it's not Adnai responsibility or Airport authority .its the airline taken decession. Let me ask how many times have you travelled to mysore innthis flight? So forget all this .Do something for the betterment of the city . Which you have not done till now .

    At Magalore airport authorities are charging Rs 800/= towards covid test for International passengers. First sort out this then look into removing he name of Adani .

    Ivan has right.Instead of asking and protesting ,simply remove the name of Adani.place again as MAI.Adani has the right to keep it and manage it .Not more.AFterall now our mangalore airport looks more like a future Goshala than international airport.who comes here and who goes .Hardly a waste of money now.no connections no flights.we better hire a bus in future to go and come when we want.since so many years no improvement.only name international .except UAE.Actuelly Adani should have taken interest to increase flights to other places.Covid came and end of all discussions.

    Adrian, Bendur/Dubai....I agree with you if the name is changed. But I am against changing the name at all. Our Crooked P.M can do anything to help his own dogs. Generally maintenance contract can be given for 2 years not 50 years, unless the contractor has spent his own money to build the same.

    Dear Mr. Ivan, please kindly keep up the fight along with all Congress Party Members including Honest Public ,(except Jokers Party Members). Adani is from Gujrath and His name is shining while hundreds of Honest Mangaloreans gave their life for betterment of our City and their name is forgotten because they were not CORRUPT. For the last fifty years I have been flying from MIA to USA and it was very friendly Airport as a home when reached. Now when I reach Airport not a single porter is seen and I saw a disabled Person carrying Her luggage until the entrance gate. Then the porter came with cart. I am 76 years old and I helped this old Lady with bad Arm while employees were standing and watching the show. This is Adani Courtesy Airport. Mr Nalin Kateel only knows to Criticise Congress party members other than nothing else. Don't give up until the Airport becomes our Mangalorean Pride ' MANGALORE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT " Thanks to All Of You Who fight for MIA.

    The name of the airport is still MIA. Adani Airports is the company that has bagged the contract to operate, manage and maintain MIA. An airport or any such public installation cannot be named after the company or organisation that is merely in charge of the installation.

    Honestly, no one can do anything because it is a legally written 50 year lease agreement. Even if there is a challenge in the court if tue BJP govt falls in the next election, nothing is going to change. The stocks of Adani will rise in value. Make hay and invest in their stock and make money. Sell the stocks just round the election. This is the only good thing we can do about Adani during this time.

    If Adani has spent all the money for building the airport, I do not have any objection to keep Adani name. But since he has been awarded a contract for maintain the airport, changing the name in his benefit is not acceptable. Let him maintain and get lost after his Maintenance period.
