Kaup, Apr 17: Police of Kaup station arrested a warrant accused who was absconding since 2008.
Ilyas alias Mohammed Hassan alias Mohammed Rafiq is the accused who was arrested by the warrant personnel of Kaup police station.
According to the complaint filed by Majoor Leeladhar Shetty on December 5, 2000, Kaup police (the then Shirva police station) had arrested four people. Accused Ilyas had secured bail from the court and had gone to Saudi Arabia and did not attend the hearings. The district sessions court had taken out a LPC warrant on him in 2008.
Kaup police station warrant personnel Sudhakar, Rafiq and Sandesh had gathered information about the absconding accused and it came to light that the accused had gone overseas on a duplicate passport in the name of Mohammed Rafiq. They also collected information that the accused is returning back to India on April 16, 2021 and arrested him near Ermalu Petrol pump.
The accused is produced to court. He is sent to 15 days judicial custody.
