Mangaluru: Gold worth Rs 14.55 lac seized at airport, one arrested

Mangaluru, Apr 19: A man smuggling gold was apprehended by the officers of Customs at Mangaluru International Airport late evening on Sunday April 18.

The passenger is identified as Arish, hailing from Bantwal in Dakshina Kannada. Gold of net weight 300.000 grams valued at Rs 14.55 lac was seized from him.

Arish had disembarked the SpiceJet flight SG 146 coming from Dubai from where he tried to smuggle gold by concealing in toys, trimmer, water dispenser and juicer etc.

Further investigation and proceedings in accordance with the law is under progress, informed the Customs officials.

    These smugglers are better than corrupt politicians as these smugglers at least don’t eat tax payers money and they put themself in risk. Also I wonder where these seized gold goes - to welfare fund or individul-welfare. I have never seen any news about using these seized gold for any development/ welfare of citizens , on the contrary so called thousands of Crore funds collected for COVID-19 was not utilized for the purpose of controlling/ mitigating effect of corona.
