Udupi, Apr 19: Deputy commissioner G Jagadeesh has directed private hospitals to reserve 50% beds for patients that have been referred by the district administration as a means to tackle the second wave of coronavirus.

Speaking after presiding over the meeting of private hospitals registered under KPMD at the district panchayat auditorium on Monday. "All the private hospitals should provide details of the beds available with them to the health department. 50% beds should be reserved under all the categories including ICU beds, beds equipped with oxygen and IFN beds for coronavirus patients. The instruments in the hospitals should be kept in proper working condition," he said.

Precautions should be taken to prevent scarcity of Remdesivir and Oxygen. The admission and discharge of patients should be recorded immediately. The hospital staff should be trained to prevent infections, G Jagadeesh said.

"The private hospitals should collect swabs of ILI and SARI cases and send them to the district hospitals. The licenses of hospitals that do not submit reports will be cancelled and action under Epidemic Act will be taken against the concerned officials," the DC warned.

The government has restricted the holding of classes other than medical. Hospitals are not permitted to hold paramedical or nursing classes and can only conduct them online. Nursing students will not be permitted to travel to and fro from Kerala.

Medical staff should work to the best of their abilities to prevent the deaths of coronavirus patients. Those who succumbed to coronavirus infection should be disposed of in a systematic manner, he advised.

District panchayat CEO Dr Navin Bhat, additional deputy commissioner Sadashiva Prabhu, DHO Dr Sudhir Chandra Sooda, district Covid nodal officer, Dr Prashanth Bhat, officers of the health department and officials of KPMD registered hospitals were present.
