Yadagiri, Apr 22: After a concrete tanker and a Tumtum vehicle got involved in a head on collision on Wednesday April 21, five women labourers lost their lives. All of them were in the Tumtum vehicle. The condition of five injured women including a girl is stated to be serious. They were taken to Kalaburagi hospital for advanced treatment.

Deveendramma (57), Ayyamma (45), Sharanamma (35), Umadevi (40) and Kashimbi (55) died on the spot. Five others, Mallamma (36), Sharanagouda (28), Hampamma (25), Gangamma (38) and Bhagyashree (14), who were struggling for life were taken to hospital by the villagers. All of them were thereafter sent to Kalaburagi as their injuries were of grave nature, the doctors said.

The women belonging to Munamutagi village were going to work in the fields in a Tumtum vehicle when a concrete tanker which came from the direction of Devadurga hit the Tumtum hard near Kolluru.

The deaths have sent many families in a tizzy as they were dependent on their income. A police team from Shahapur station conducted inquest. The tanker driver has been arrested and a case of negligent driving has been registered.
