Mangaluru/Udupi, Apr 22: Amid spiking cases of infections due to the second wave of Covid-19 in the state, following the revised guidelines from the state government, the officials of Mangaluru City Corporation were seen closing down commercial establishments in the city.

The Mangaluru City Corporation officials have asked business establishments in Central Market to stop their operations.

According to a Kannada news channel, police officers in Mysuru, Hassan, Belgaum, Chikkamagaluru have been ordering commercial establishments to close down their stores and only permitting emergency and essential services to operate.

This action by the authorities drew flak from several vendors who expressed their anger against the administration. Following the revised guidelines from the government, the deputy commissioner of the revenue department along with other MCC officials ordered only essential and emergency services to function.

The authorities have been directed to cancel the trade license of vendors who have encroached on the road.

A similar drive was carried in the Udupi district as well. Municipal officials in the city closed down all the shops except grocery shops, medical stores and those who deal with the sale of construction equipment.

Stores selling footwear, apparel and other commercial stores were ordered to shut down.

Food establishments were directed to only provide takeaway (parcel) service. Hotels, bars and pubs which were operating were shut down.

Municipal officials also warned the shop owners of criminal charges if any violation was found on their part.

Today, I am shocked to see individuals above age of 50 are stopped from entering supermarkets, gone to buy groceries. What kind of stupid rule is this. If oein homes are old and above 50, government should ensure grocery delivered home if you want people above 50 have to be stay locked in their home. Sheer nonsense

Only for a few days, only for a few weeks.,Only for a month & this is all for your good is the narrative to takeaway your freedom step by step for a common cold like viral infection which doesn't qualify to be called a pandemic. Again I had stated For a Emergency Govt is forced to takeaway your freedom. Next they will create an Emergency to keep the powers forever. Time people take note and call their representatives to stop these measures and GET our freedom back.
