Mangalore, Aug 5: The musical event ‘A Tribute to the Legends’ was held on Wednesday August 4 at the Town Hall in the city.
The event was in remembrance of singing legends Kishore Kumar, who was born on August 4, and Mohammad Rafi, who died on July 30, as well as other popular Hindi singers of the past.
Well-known anchor and journalist Manohar Prasad of Kannada daily ‘Udayavani’, Walter Nandalike, editor-in-chief, Daijiworld, and Dilip Kumar, an entrepreneur, lit the lamp.
Prasad talked briefly about the two legendary singers, their popularity, achievements, and memorable songs.
Nandalike hailed the Mangalorean crowd packed in the hall despite the short notice by the organizers. “The packed crowd here today shows the love Mangaloreans have towards the two greatest singers of Bollywood”, he said.
He added, “Though Kishore Kumar is not with us today, we have Mangalore’s very own Kishore Kumar in the form of Srikant Kamath, who is very popular here and in Mohd Rafi’s stead we have Mohd Hanief, who sings exactly like Rafi”.
Hanief sang the songs of Rafi while Kamath rendered the popular Kishore Kumar numbers.
Singers like Prahalad, Akhila, Anitha, Nayana, and Muralidhar Kamath, Ranjan also joined in. The captive audience stayed glued to their seats till the end of the programme.
Mangalore’s ace comperes Shahil Zahir and John Prem mesmerized the audience with their charming ways.
Entry was free for the audience. Singers and musicians of Mangalore hosted the event in memory of the two great legends Kishore Da and Rafi Saheb.
