Udupi: Rise in admissions to ICU cause for concern - DC on Covid situation

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (HB/EP)

Udupi, Apr 23: Referring to the weekend curfew that has been enforced DC G Jagadeesh informed that the purchase of essential commodities in Udupi can be done from 6 am to 10 am. He informed that private buses will not be permitted to operate when there are fewer passengers.

Speaking at a press conference held at the deputy commissioner’s office on Friday, April 23 the DC said, "About 3,000 swab samples are being collected every day. 10.50 per cent of them are found to be positive. The virus is spreading rapidly."

“There is no scarcity of oxygen supply in Udupi for the time being. But there is likely to be a scarcity of ICU beds if the numbers continue to rise. We urge people to not bring patients to the hospital at the last minute," the DC stressed.

“The symptoms were found among 5 per cent of people earlier. Now it is being reported among 25 per cent of people. This development is alarming. The seriousness of the pandemic has increased. Four Covid deaths were recorded from January to April. But, now the number of people getting admitted to ICU is on the rise which is a cause for concern,” he said.

Medical facilities available at present:

46 ventilators in the district hospital, 12 HFNC, 480 oxygen beds, 629 oxygen beds in private hospitals, 428 beds without oxygen facilities, 101 High Dependency Unit (HDU) beds, 100 ICU beds, 25 HNFC and 13 ventilators. Out of 629 oxygen beds, 49 are occupied and 580 are vacant.

"Everybody has the responsibility to isolate the infected and provide treatment. The number of tests needs to be ramped up," he said.

District panchayat CEO, Dr Navin Bhat Y, additional DC, Sadashiva Prabhu, DSP Vishnuvardhan and nodal officer, Dr Prashanth were present.

Total policy paralysis right from the top! The new Indian variant of the virus was detected on October 5th 2020; at which time, the administration should have sprung into action to get the genome sequence & focussed on finding a cure for that, but it was not to be, as usual! Reportedly oxygen producing facility tenders were not cleared for months; over and above, vaccines and oxygen were exported at our populations cost using tax payers money, and now we are just struggling in an overwhelming situation where innocent citizens are dying like flies! The administration should invoke the ESMA for diverting maximum amount of oxygen to hospitals, also compel some vacant halls to make makeshift Covid19 wards to save lives! But who will take the initiative & enforce this? It's really sorry state of affairs; and now the time has come for super spreading due to the large gatherings in which crores of people participated! This time the new variant is taking the lives of young productive people! Unless immediate measures are taken the situation is bound to become super critical in days to come! The above is just a personal opinion and suggestion in the interest of the citizens of our country! Jai hind!!!

Mehandi ceremonies are not allowed as per Chief Secretaty's order. Only weddings with restrictions ,among others, maximum 50 invitees. This Deputy Commissioner claims himself strict official in implementing rules and regulation, not only granted permission for Mehendi, but alo attended the ceremony without mask. What to call him, ignorant, irresponsible, insensitive. Is there two sets of rules for police, bureacrates, MLA, MP and Ministers..

When the world was knowing a second wave is erupting in some countries and it's imperative that it will not spare anybody, our entire administration, from top to bottom, was sleeping singing laurels instead of getting ready for the inevitable; now when the infection is spreading like wild fire, they are not able to do anything except blame shortages, etc etc. In fact, we have been the worst in the world in anticipating & preparing in whatever way for the impending crisis! Kumbh Mela & election rallies infection bomb will explode soon & the crisis will increase manifold! This is a new variant Corona which is killing people like flies unlike the last one! It reminds us of the Spanish flu which hit 100 years ago and killed 5-6 crore people; this Covid is following the same pattern; this second wave is not the end; as a third wave will also come! Only divine Providence can help us now!

That is the worst nature of Corona. Today it may be mild symptoms, but after a week it is icu admission. So you can easily expect lacs of deaths this time, even if you provide best medical care.

simply dont scare people, if people follow the laidout precautions, nothing will happen. if the dc himself attends functions without a mask where 600 invitees are there, why will the public follow rules?

Hospital respirators are normally set to hyperventilate patients, and the use of supplemental oxygen tends to make hyperventilation worse, making breathing and circulation more difficult. Carbogen, 95% oxygen with 5% carbon dioxide, is available, but is seldom used. -Dr Ray peat

So tune changes from "we are ready and equipped to face Covid Surge to Rise in admissions to ICU a cause for concern". Change is very similar to some intelligent bhakths after about 6 years waiting for acche din, some of them realised that those acche din by Fakirji is not for them but for Ambani and Adani. Still some of them are hanging to cheddi.

Without delay please plan to convert some hotels to treat ICU units for regular patients so hospitals ICU units can use for Covid19 patients.
