Mangalore: Rickshaw Challenge Mumbai Express 2010 Flagged Off from City

Mangalore Aug 5: Rickshaw challenge Mumbai Express 2010, a 2000-km trek across India by participants from different countries to raise funds for the schools with a motto ‘freedom through education, was flagged- off by superintendent of police Dr A Subrahmanyeshwar Rao from the Mallikatte Government School on Thursday August 5.

The challenge that began at Chennai, now reached Mangalore traversing Vellore and Bangalore, with next destination being Murudeshwar (Bhatkal), Panaji, Ratnagiri, Mahabaleshwar, Pune, Alibaugh and Mumbai. Nations participating in the race are Ireland, Holland, Singapore, Canada, South Africa, UK and USA

Speaking to Daijiworld a participant from Holland, Menno and Patrick from Ireland said that they were happy to see India on an autorickshaw la James Bond and encountering challenging routes.

Event managing director Aravind Bremanandam said that the rickshaw challenge has raised fifty thousand dollars till date for Round table
India projects. The challenge is not mere a trek journey but is a fund raiser which will help primary schools all over the country get to get
buildings, infrastructure, health care, educational accessories, vocational and individual child-related programmes.

In total 11 teams of two members each and two teams of three members each armed with an autorickshaw constitute the participants.

Mangalore round table (MRT) chairman Vinod A R Pinto and Mangalore Ladies Club (MLC) 82 chairperson Oreethi Pinto including all the
tablers of MRT 115 and circlers of MLC 82 were present. The challenge has been organized by Mangalore Round Table 115 and MLC 82.
